Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) is the best song from GHS.
Nobody talks about this song from GHS.

Numerous times. It's not as good as Coming Down Again, imo.

Which is not as good as 100 Years Ago, imo.

I love that the bass comes in on the second verse.

Come to think of it: are there any more Stones songs where the bass comes in later? Only other one I can come up with is HTW for now.

A fantastic glam tribute to Chuck Berry. A seductive sly intro that slips up your spine. And the bottom kicks in with glorious raunch and roll. The Stones can deliver debauchery effortlessly. Its in their DNA. As if saying we are not mere mortals sent to this planet to live a life of the status quo. We are rock gods flying through time and space with parasites and hangers on'ers they can feed off of. And discard their dried used souls to the teenage scrapheap. Tweens and teens lusting for them, and they roll into towns ready for a Roman conquest. Take no prisoners. LA, NY, London, Berlin. Every town there are star fvuckers for them to feed off of. Almost Famous with vampires. Love this song.

Look at all those @#$%&s...

I prefer the South African edit, 'Star (BOOM), Star (BOOM)'!

I loved the Japanese import of Goat's Head, with the lyric sheet saying Star Bucker, Star Bucker, Star Bucker!

I always thought Star Star summed up GHS perfectly. That is, a rocker that's just a bit more polished that I would have liked. The smoother approach to this album fit some songs like Winter and Coming Down Again, but just made some of the others (like Mr. D and this one) sound a bit weaker than they could have been.

And since this has apparently become a "what are your favorite songs from GHS" thread, I'll oblige.

1. Heartbreaker

2. Winter (This has nothing to do with Taylor by the way. Listen to Nicky Hopkins on this one, good god. And Jagger's rhythm guitar is beautiful as well. And as always, Bill and Charlie. Actually, now that I think about it, Taylor's contribution is the least remarkable part of the song.)

3. Coming Down Again

However some of my favorite stuff from the GHS sessions never made it onto the album. Things like Through The Lonely Nights, Fast Talking Slow Walking, Waiting on a Friend, etc.

Those were the "official" lyrics, apparently. I remember looking through the published music book of the album.

Whoops, I thought I mentioned that. The strings are lovely as well.

Yep, that about says it. You do have a way with words, whitem.

Love the song too, especially it's place at the end of GHS, which I probably listen to more than most Stones albums, save Exile.

But, I generally skip it or turn it down when my kid is in the car, not that it really matters, considering the hip hop stuff he listens too. eye popping smiley

Dirty-Sexy-Cool......The Stones only have a small handful of truly sexy songs. Off the top of my head Hey Nigrita, She Was Hot, Brand New Car, Dance Little Sister.

Star Star's only weakness is using the contemporary stars of the era in the lyrics which date the song. But musically they nail it.

Love it....Top 25 IMHO

Another sex powerhouse on GHS is Hide Your Love.

I'm listening to this song right now... Sounds like Weaving between MT and Keith. They're both playing lead type stuff on the solo. But it also sounds like there's a third guitar playing rhythm? I can't tell.

NICK KENT: "So how are relations currently with Atlantic records?"

KEITH RICHARDS: "Uh comfortable, y'know. They've tried to balls about a bit with this latest album. They've given us a lot of trouble over `Starfcuker' for all the wrong reasons—I mean, they even got down to saying that Steve McQueen would pass an injunction against the song because of the line about him and of course he okayed it. It was just a hustle, though. Obstacles put in our way."

The music for Star Star is the beginning of a Stones by numbers blueprint. A prototype Chuck Berry rocker which would be revisited on Some Girls, Emotional Rescue, Tattoo You and which would eventually give way to the stadium rock four to the floor sound from Steel Wheels onwards. I don't recall them doing that on any album from Aftermath to Exile.

"It's Not Easy" from Aftermath?

Always did like this song. It would be great as an opener for any concert. Certainly would get the crowd in the right mood. The guitar solo is wild.

The BBC in Britain banned the song from all air-play at the time.
Star Star was on the setlist of the Stones 73 Tour "Rotterdam the 13th", great playing by Keith and I do hear "Chuck Berry" somehow. My friends and I sung al this track at the timesmiling smiley

I actually recall coming home fairly late at night about 30 or so years ago and turning on the TV. Must have been about midnight. We only had channels 2, 7 and 9 in those days.

There was a special on that was The Stones in concert and the song being played, in all its live ragged glory, was Star Star. Before it got to the chorus I thought... What's going to happen then? Well... We got all the words, which in conservative Australia back then was pretty unbelievable.

What was that show, special I wonder?

I mean, a woman DJ by the name of Chunky if I am not mistaken, on Perths new 96fm radio station got sacked for having played the track Some Girls with the black girls lyric....

But I think channel 7 got away with a big one for those days....

Not that I care that much...but with Carly trying to revive her musical career she might be just trying to keep David Geffen on good terms, or maybe the song is about David Crosby. In any case she apparently lost 2 tries at suing Starbucks for not promoting her record...probably spent more on lawyer fees than she would have gained from Starbucks sales. peace
