Feels like listening to my own summer, at one Point you can't even separate them, the only trick is to be with different ethnics, hence the tune.....

A defiant poke in the eye to the forces of political correctness that were gathering steam in the 1970s; calculated and brilliant.

The “Shine A Light” version is a hoot. And legend has it there is a 24-minute outtake that has yet to see the light of day.

Maybe because of that political incorrectness? And when they finally played it, they altered the lyrics

Fabulous song...... Probably because of the lyrics, I couldn't stop playing it when I bought Some Girls all those years ago.....

Its a hard choice, but it is possibly my favourite song on that album.

It's such an amazing track, clearly the best on the album. Musically, just wow! The interplay of the guitars and harmonica just reach out & grab you. I understand the lyrics aren't for everybody, but I've always found them interesting and funny.

One of the songs which are essential for the profile of the band. My favorite besides Beast of Burden from Some Girls. It is a blues, loud and proud, without any gender correctness ... guitars, guitars, guitars, Stones at their best.

For me there to be a distinction, the outright great songs on SOME GIRLS are in the order they feature: "Miss You", "Faraway Eyes", and "Shattered". Then the very good songs, in opposite order to the way they are included, are "Beast of Burden" and "Some Girls", whereas I also do like "Lies", whether it is very good, too, or "only" good.

I have no objections to the "correctness" of this song as to almost any song by the Rolling Stones.

This reminds me of the song Let It Bleed in it's richness...I often find that both these title tracks end up being my favourite songs on the album.

It's interesting that they did not play this track on the SOME GIRLS tour (the only other track to not get played was Before They Make Me Run). Then again, they played Satisfaction at the last show of the tour, no SFTD or silly old songs.

Great song. I love it. Somewhere I saw Mick say he was spoofing the Beach Boys' California Girls.

Bob Dylan had just lost his Zuma Beach house in a divorce when Mick wrote it.

I saw the Stones at "the Pond" in Anaheim for the No Security Tour and had a side seat above the stage. From my seat I could see that Mick sang every song from memory except for Some Girls for which he used a teleprompter. The tabloids were filled with the news of Luciana Gimenez being pregnant with Mick's kid. So the Stones (I think) obviously inserted Some Girls into the setlist at the last minute to match the headlines, recently enough that Mick hadn't had a chance to memorize the lines yet. "Some girls give me children..." I was thrilled they played it.

Just like for the same show they played Route 66 for the first time on that tour because the composer Bobby Troup had just died. Mick didn't need a teleprompter for that. I don't think they had one on the B-stage, anyway, where they played it.

When that first flanged chord comes in you know immediately that you are in for something special. And when the harmonica follows soon after it's obvious that are we back at Stones Central and in for a treat.

At first the song sounds deceptively simple and lolls along as Jagger takes us on a sleaze fest of conquests - imagined or real, who knows - giving us his most outrageously misogynistic lyric since Stupid Girl back in the 60s.

But there's a brilliant underlying synthesizer part by Bill Wyman on the chorus that meshes perfectly with Ronnie's acoustic guitar and gives the song an almost French chanson feel. If you've never detected it go back and listen to it as it really strengthens the whole chorus. Hats off to Billy Wyman.

This is a strange one for me. Like "Just My Imagination," I much prefer the track live to the studio version. Sure, I'd prefer to hear the original lyrics live, but you can't have everything. As it stands, the Jesse Jackson anecdote is the best thing that came of it. Well, that and Garrett Morris' plea on SNL that he wanted to meet the black women Mick knew.

Incidentally, I've always wondered if the line about the "you may be a rock 'n' roll addict prancing on a stage / money, drugs at your command / women in a cage" in Dylan's "Gotta Serve Somebody" the following year was Dylan getting back for the Zuma Beach dig.

On the topic, I suspect Mick cited Bob's divorce because Marvin Mitchelson represented Sara Dylan, Marsha Hunt, and Bianca in rapid succession.

Surely it's "By half"?

Definitely the best track off the SG record! The Sugar Blue harmonica riff that starts the tune and the record really makes it stand out....just superb. I like the lyrics, the arrangement and the instrumentation, altogether just great.

It may be the last Stones tune where I actually liked the way MJ sang it.......peace
