It's ok. It's just a knock off of his opening track from Life, Death, Love and Freedom (which is songs all about the second word) called Longest days.

He needs to step back somewhat into the commercial arena as since losing Arnoff and co he's fallen way too hard for the Guthrie thing and he's sounding way too samey.

I love every album since and including Uh Huh but his creativity is being stifled by this now overdone style he's settled on since Trouble No More (excluding Cutting Heads). Time to hang up the analog John and get back to writing styles of all sorts and head back into digital. He's too good a songwriter to be banging out songs that sound the same.

I agree, and T-Bone has to go as his producer. It worked on one album, albeit it became a bit of a bore with the "one mic-technique" over a whole album, imo.

You don't love his "John Cougar"-album with "Taxi Dancer" and "Miami"?

No one is going to tell "little bastard" what to do. If he wants to make boring records and foment his own oblivion then he will. Fine by me.

I have all his gear Dandy but aside from a song or two from every record from John Cougar to American fool it's mostly garbage to my ears. I think the success of a non typical hit suck as Jack and Dianne woke him up to the fact he can play rock star and be creative at the same time. And so Uh Hug even surprised the critics because he put his head down and got to work.

Given he's a huge Stones fan you would have thought he'd already known you can play rock star and be a creative dude all at the sabe time.

not a bad toon but doesn't really 'stand out'.

don't know how this can be considered 'single-worthy'.

Yeah I agree treacle but he's of the mind these days (apparently) that he's turned his back on commercialism. Makes you wonder why he's bothering to make and release records then.

Dandy's right about Tbone too I think. The guy's gotta go. Give Mellencamp back some electric guits, get rid of the violins and squeezeboxes for now and go back to a rock roots album ala Whenever We Wanted.

I agree with everything that has been said, especially what OzHeavyThrobber had to say. I LOVE Mellencamp, but his albums have started to sound all the same. Very boring. Losing T-Bone would be a good place to start. I couldn't even make it through the "Better Than This" album.

hmmm... i actually like his recent 3-4 albums better then anything he has done since the 80's. maybe even more then any 80's album except for scarecrow, uh-huh and lonesone jubilee.
