Today, tomorrow, and yesterday, too
The flowers are dyin' like all things do
Follow me close, I’m?going?to Balian Bali
I'll?lose my mind if you don't?come with me
I fuss with my hair, and I fight blood feuds
I contain multitudes

Got a tell-tale heart, like Mr. Poe
Got skeletons in the walls of people you know
I’ll drink to the truth and the things we said
I'll drink to the man that shares your bed
I paint landscapes, and I paint nudes
I contain multitudes

Red Cadillac and a black mustache
Rings on my fingers that sparkle and flash
Tell me, what's next? What shall we do?
Half my soul, baby, belongs to you
I relic and I frolic with all the young dudes
I contain multitudes

I'm just like Anne Frank, like Indiana Jones
And them British bad boys, The Rolling Stones
I go right to the edge, I go right to the end
I go right where all things lost are made good again
I sing the songs of experience like William Blake
I have no apologies to make
Everything's flowing all at the same time
I live on the boulevard of crime
I drive fast cars, and I eat fast foods
I contain multitudes

Pink petal-pushers, red blue jeans
All the pretty maids, and all the old queens
All the old queens from all my past lives
I carry four pistols and two large knives
I'm a man of contradictions, I'm a man of many moods
I contain multitudes

You greedy old wolf, I'll show you my heart
But not all of it, only the hateful part
I’ll sell you down the river, I’ll put a price on your head
What more can I tell you? I sleep with life and death in the same bed
Get lost, madame, get up off my knee
Keep your mouth away from me
I'll keep the path open, the path in my mind
I’ll see to it that there's no love left behind
I'll play Beethoven's sonatas, and Chopin’s preludes
I contain multitude

^ One lyric site has it as Berlinale....

via wiki:

"The Berlin International Film Festival (German: Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin), usually called the Berlinale, is a film festival held annually in Berlin, Germany.
Founded in West Berlin in 1951,the festival has been held every February since 1978 and is one of the "Big Three" alongside the Venice Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival".

Population 347. So obscure a place I doubt too many people living on the island of Ireland have heard of it. I certainly haven't. I doubt Bob has either!!

Red Cadillac and a black mustache

I like this nod to the old Warren Smith classic, which he covered a few years back on a Sun Records tribute album

Sounds like that and would make sense in the context of the song. But is that how you would pronounce it if it were an English word?

My guess was based on the fact that Bob seems to be a History geek (the Titanic connection, the battle of Balinalee, or this Antoin Ó Raifteirí poem - all of them unbeknownst to me so far - thanks, Bob!). On any case, both you and me now heard about this place. grinning smiley

The town of Balinalee are going to be on the map now Gaz smiling smiley Like Moneygal will live off the Obama visit, Balinalee, "As referred to by Mr. Bob Dylan", will be on the tourist trail.

Yes, it's most certainly "Follow me close, I’m going to Bally-na-Lee" [you are right, it's a reference to Anthony Raftery's "The Lass From Bally-na-Lee" = Ballynally or Ballinalee, towns in Ireland].

Don't be vulgar, when you got no clue

It's a terrific track, nobody but Dylan can do it at this age.

Wonderful lyrics. But it appears to be the same music in both new songs almost. Just a shuffling skiffle. Dirges.

Beethoven, Betts, Stevie Nicks, The Stones, etc.

Bobby doesn't mind name checking his friends, does he?

I actually think Dylan is great - but not everything he does.

Lyrics are great but sometimes even I get tired of those two chord melody shuffles
back and forth.

Or better listen to this

video: [www.youtube.com]

to get some perspective again for true greatness in lyrics, composition, performance and artistic intensity...

While the new tracks still show lyrical greatness, the music actually wears off after a while and gets a bit tiresome, like some incidental music imo.

I do share your thoughts. Which is why I stopped seeing Dylan in 2007, after 17 concerts from 1990.

Hope Dylan will spend time writing Chronicles Vol. 2 in these times.
