Didn't think of that. But there's gotta be some talking, otherwise one will loose the live-feel. BTW, I do think it's a waste with them 2 discs featuring the Toronto 1980 show, since they include it on the DVD too. And we have it in nearly perfect quality (audio) allready. That's my only complaint. And....I was hoping they had some other show than Toronto filmed too; but they probably didn't. It's far from the best 79-81 shows.

Thanks for that.thumbs up

He played the Santa Monica Civic Nov. 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st, 1979, and after a quick glimpse through the list looks like there's some tracks from a couple of those dates - one of which I was at.
Just need to dig through ticket stubs in storage to figure out which one....sat next to Ronnie Wood 5th row center, and as a 16 year old at the time that was one of the highlights!

right, he is a performing arist. What really counts are the live performances. And the ways he kepts on perfoming his songs changes, new version, new readings and sometimes even new lyrics appear in concert. That's why the recorded versions of his songs are more or less blueprint.

But this doesn't lessen the quality of the blueprint, as in many cases they are the definitive versions that we all know and love.
It's great that he takes them to another level when performing live, and while many of the live versions are fantastic, sometimes the results fall short.
Not every experiment or improv is succesful 100% of the time, but you have to go give him credit for taking chances and exploring uncharted territory with his tunes.

Hear Bob Dylan's Lost Gospel Masterpiece 'Making a Liar Out of Me'

Up until now, not even Dylan's most hardcore fans had heard this 'Saved'-era tune, which will come out on the next Bootleg Series release

by the way: Bob Dylan kicked off his fall tour some days ago.
The show is now featuring radical new arrangements of:
- THings Have Changed
- Summer Days (now a kind of country swing)
- Honest With Me
- It Ain't Me Babe
- Tangled Up In Blue
- Tryin' To Get To Heaven
and: Thunder On The Moutain

see: [www.youtube.com] (the recording quality is quite poor though)

Thanks for this.

I've been a Dylan fan forever, but in recent years my appreciation for his restlessness and continuing growth has moved him to the top of my list. He still functions as an artist, and not a touring production of his hits, performed as if it were a Broadway show.

Radically new arrangements?
Hard to listen to that audio, but those arrangements sound similar to how he's been playing them for awhile now.

beside the fact that he hasn't performed many of the songs mentioned above for some years, off course. Last performances were:

Honest With Me - 2013
It Ain't Me - only once since 2013
Tryin' To Get To Heaven - 2014 (only once)
Thunder On The Mountain - first sind 2014

And, by the way, have you ever heard Summer Days featuring a violin before?

Like I said, hard to get the gist of it via that horrible sounding video so didn't listen through all of it, and it also depends on your definition of "radical new arrangements". And not being a statistician of every song Dylan's played where and when, didn't really take that all into account. That said, Things Have Changed and Tangled Up in Blue sounded similar to recent renditions from the last few years. And no, can't recall Summer Days featuring a violin - are you sure that's a violin? Almost sounds like a kazoo in that video! winking smiley
