Connections ............ ... Bob Montgomery & Buddy Holly watch on as The Rockin' Machine signs autographs --- Lubbock Texas 1955

Now that is a cool photo - Buddy Holly in the house!!!

Just found this tidbit (on wiki):

"By 1955, after graduating from high school, Holly decided to pursue a full-time career in music. He was further encouraged after seeing Elvis Presley performing live in Lubbock,
whose act was booked by Pappy Dave Stone of KDAV. In February, Holley opened for Presley at the Fair Park Coliseum, in April at the Cotton Club, and again in June at the Coliseum".

And some info on Bob Montgomery: American singer, songwriter, and record producer/publisher.

Some of the crazier Buddy Holly conected stories are told by Little Richard.eye popping smiley

I cannot wait for the bootleg series that will cover the born again era.

I hear it is either next up or will follow Blood on the Tracks - which I also eagerly anticipate.

Bob Dylan's new box set The 1966 Live Recordings isn't hitting shelves until November 11th, but his team is already thinking about their next archival release. For the thirteenth chapter of the Bootleg Series, the musician is strongly leaning toward a box set devoted to his gospel period, which ran from 1979 to 1981. The only other set under major consideration is one that chronicles the 1974 Blood on the Tracks sessions.

Me either, Precious Angel came on randomly on my playlist today, such a good song among many of that era!

Was drinkin a Golden Road Point the Way tallish boy (19.2 oz's thank u very much) straight out of a can yesterday cuz that's how we do while I walked the 3-month old out on the lawn between bottle feedings. Our leafy backyard soundtrack was Desire.

I was trying to explain to him what a marvel the following lines from that record were but he just gurgled and eventually fell asleep in my arms:

you'll be doin society a favor
that sonuvabitch is brave and gettin braver

the wind it was a-howlin and the snow was outrageous
we chopped through the night and we chopped through the dawn
when he died i was hopin that it wasn't contagious
but i made up my mind that i had to go on

quick magdalena take my gun
look up in the hills that flash of light
aim well my little one
we may not make it through the night

i was sittin home alone one night
in l.a. watchin old cronkite

stayin up for days in the chelsea hotel
writin "sad eyed lady of the lowlands" for you

Dylan has cancelled the last date, 27 July, of his current tour.
Reason: 'Scheduling difficulties'.
The preceeeding date is two days earlier, in the same State.
Is there any logic to this?

There's some rumours about the Toronto DVD being included on the new Bootleg Series covering his gospel era. I'm not sure if that could be offered as a standalone DVD, but who knows?

Incredible: "Bob Dylan really likes the idea and is happy for you to pursue it."

And: "McPherson was told he could use any song in any way."

Amazing.

But I'm even more intrigued by the death of poor Mr Shoes by heart attack ...

!!

thanks Christiano. thumbs up

"...I certainly didn't start out to do anything like this..."

It took me just a bit to adjust to the sonics once the concert actually started; i variously have to listen at a pretty low volume to avoid some harsh artifacts here and there...then again the 'field recording' aspect of this, the subturranean homesick blusiness of the whole affair: performance, talking with Allen, hitting the stage...the audience is receiving him beautifully as well; the snark and bite of Desolation Row is met with knowing laughter line by line at times...everythings connected here...

...I'm somewhat into the show now; it's breath-taking. He's really showing up completely here imo. I don't think this level of personal performance could even be done with a band. He can slow and rush and stall and linger or not at will...

....There's a wistful recognition of the whole thing somehow in his voice; it's pretty remarkable. The interps feel very connected; each syllable is shaped with an emotional authenticity somehow here...he's not going through any motions at all. Ginsberg got us an incredible gift here; and you gave it to me Christiano. And I"m already forwarding the link to some people who saw him at Newport in my family...this is a pretty super gift, thank you; totally missed it. totally miss a lot of stuff. You don't seem to... smiling smiley

Roland Janes
Bob Dylan remembers a rockabilly legend.

On August 20th, Roland Janes would have been 84 years old. I got to meet him in Memphis on a recording session a few years ago where he was the house engineer at the Philips Recording Studios. He had given up guitar playing in the early ‘60s to concentrate on engineering and producing records for Sam Phillips. The records that he had played on in the ‘50s were the classic records of Jerry Lee, Billy Riley, Sonny Burgess, Barbara Pittman, Charlie Rich and others. He played no small part in any of those recordings. In fact, he defined those recordings as much as the featured performers. All through the years I’ve listened to Roland constantly on all those records he played on. I think his playing is unprecedented, and to me he was one of the most exciting players ever, both rhythmically and melodically.

It was a thrill to meet him and work with him even for the brief time we spent together. After the session, we stayed in touch and he sent me a story that he had written. I didn’t know that he was a writer but it was a beautiful story and very moving. This is the story. It’s a Christmas story.
