I see things differently- i do not want a tattoo. I do not wear jewelry or any thing else. I have no problem with it but is each to their own.

I do not need to make a statement; I am what you see as I do not need symbols.

Ps - anybody who says it isn't sore is telling you lies. There's people whose misplaced macho bullshit can trick you into thinking otherwise but you're having needles inserted into your skin at a very high speed, so of course it hurts. It's uncomfortable and stings a lot. You'll bleed a lot. It'll also take around 10 days to fully heal. I'd recommend Bepanthen to keep it moisturised.

As for laser? Again, don't be fooled. This is sheer agony. It's basically the same as having sunburn inflicted onto your skin although this is worse because the area concerned will blister with blood. It is very expensive and can only be applied in 6 week spells due to radiation. It's very time consuming and will cost more than the original piece. Finally, it only really fades. It's ideal for lightening the ink to prepare the skin for a cover up piece. It won't ever completely vanish.

I work in a tattoo parlour so felt I should pass on some of what I know.

I don't understand the appeal of tattoos, but if you and yours are happy to live with it for the rest of your life, go ahead.

I think a small, discrete tattoo can be nice, but depending on your profession, they can be a bother. I work with several young women who have them in noticeable places, like their lower legs or shoulder, and they have to make sure the tattoos are covered at work. I wouldn't want to have to worry about wearing a sweater in the summer heat and I'm not fond of pain. Pierced ears are enough for me.

If someone other than a child considered a tattoo painful as in "hurts a lot" they either have a low threshold to pain or have barely been alive long enough to build any tolerance to it.

It is not a "macho bs thing" it is simply my experience of it. I have many friends with tattoos and nobody made comment of it being painful - even the apparent macho girls.

"Hurts a lot" is a kidney biopsy. Vascular catheters being inserted into one's neck without. Catheters inserted into one's penis while not under anaesthesia. Major surgery. These are "hurts a lot" type things.

Any adult that isn't prone to issues with nerve ending will experience less pain than that of that inflicted by acupuncture.

"Sheer agony" by the way would be salvage chemotherapy for weeks at a time followed by harrowing extraction of then infusion of autologous stem cells.

Not laser therapy. Granted it's not cheap. But to call it "sheer agony" is like saying a shot gun is as destructive as an atom bomb.

Okay Kyle M, I'll take your word for it that it isn't that big a deal. I actually have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but everyone is different. I know some people who can barely stand the thought of needles, it's just they way they are. I just don't see the need to put yourself through something uncomfortable that you may end up regretting and ultimately have to pay to undo.

It hurts - believe me - it hurts.
After a 5-8 hours session your done. Everybody is.

Ozheavythrobber's post is pretty spot on.

It also depends what part of the body is being tattoo'd. A small Stone's tongue isn't going to take more than a couple hours.

Some stinging and scrapping is all it is going to be.

Watch some youtube videos of people getting one in the area that you want your's. Then go from there.

I have 2 that took about 2 hours each. Only part that was uncomfortable was the coloring in. It was a heavy scratching/scrapping feeling. I hardly bled at all.

I have one more that I'll probably get soon. Just waiting for a special occasion.

It is a good idea, the tounge that is. I once had a (look alike tattoo) plastic tounge glued on my forarm, for 3 months or something. Twen it was worn out, by washing my hands, taking a bath or going to the swimmingpool. Maybee that is the classical middle road solution ; serves the mid life crisis, AND is not a whole life committment.. cheap,I know... smiling smiley

No you'll hate it after 30 years. Just being honest.

after 30 years you'll be old and prolly forget you even have it.

It probably won't look like a tongue any longer either...just sayin'

To each their own. I met a guy and he has the Swansong records logo tattooed on his arm. The angel or whatever the guy is.

If I were to get one, I'd generally pick the upper arm area near the shoulder. I see a lot of people have seemed to have gotten the sun (whole sun or partial) tattooed in that area. I just thought it was interesting and did not know if that had a special significance. Tribal?

I've always liked the Les Miserables logo, of Cosette. I've pondered a few suggestions such as this but haven't carried through, that one seems a bit on the complex end. [www.onlinesheetmusic.com]

Or simple is good too.

Cat tracks okay.

Football clubs, flags of nationality are common.

I'm thinking aloud here, I've thought of a tattoo as well, just not sure of the right kind.

I've got a whole bunch. All different in meaning, all in different spots.

Got Gimme Shelter on my chest too and an anchor on my ring finger. Officially addicted.

Those are very nice. The artwork is well done too, that's got to be important as well.

I wouldn't do it, if I were you. I have got a tattoo, and there are no regrets.

But : I like the tongue-logo on a record, cd or on a t-shirt, and on all the merchandising that I have bought over the last 35 years, but as a tattoo I just don't like it. I've seen many at the concerts, and they all look cheap to me.

Compare it with the Mercedes-Benz logo : nice on tour car, or shirt or where-ever, but not as a tattoo.

And don't think yoúr tattoo will get any attention these days, as everybody allready has one.
It used to be special, nowadays it's special if you don't have any !

I've got a small Stones tongue, it took less than ten minutes! And no pain at all. I've also got a small (I'm talking less than an inch across) tattoo on my leg--same thing. If you're getting a huge tattoo like an arm sleeve or the whole back, then yeah, I guess Raymond82 is right, but that wasn't remotely my experience. Also, no bleeding. At all.

As much as I am not a tattoo person, I have to say that Aquamarine's is quite
charming. Even Anna Wintour would probably find it acceptable.

Sometimes, a girl just has to get her ya-yas out.

I completely agree if that is the case. Tattoos (just in my opinion) are ok to a point and only if they can be concealed. I have two small ones as I mentioned earlier but really only did it for my daughter's name - and of course I'll never regret that. Just did the Stones at the same time as they were and remain a life long love and I quite openly admit it was sort of a "I'm still hip" mid life thingy that I laugh at myself about. Odd thing is I generally don't care for them unless they're a Who song or in a Stones' album title smoking smiley

The thing with regret down the track may be indeed the case for some - but the degree of regret I would think would be far less if these tatts were small and easy to cover. I see some people here in Perth (young especially) walking through town with ink on their faces and think "What the F%$K? Why would anyone do that?" But then I don't know their lives, who they are or their reasons for doing so. I am certain people like that will come to regret their choices regarding ink. This isn't really what the poster is asking about though. And for the record I hate needles, but this from my perception wasn't like having a needle.

Roadster32 - I have no idea how your response really correlates to my post. You mean it "hurts...really hurts" etc as if I am unaware of what it's like. I stated in an earlier post I have two tattoos. The worst I could call it is uncomfortable. There is obviously nerve endings chiming away saying "man something weird is going on with our skin!!!" but the exaggeration that has been heaped on the apparent pain levels of getting a tattoo by some people in this thread is pointlessly misleading I feel.
Nobody is saying do 8 hour sessions either. Larger tattoos are regularly done piecemeal over more than one session. Anyone wanting to push it will obviously feel worse than someone approaching getting a tattoo in a less full boar manner.

I have a small tongue on my back. Discreet but forever there.
The Stones music is part of me, and I decided I wanted my one tattoo to mean something.
So why not? You won't regret it. In fact, it makes you feel part of this thing we call Stones Fan.

That is cool.

OK, and now for an epiphany. I JUST NOW realized what your onscreen name refers to.

Originally I thought you were a male, but that was years ago. I wasn't sure why a female would have the name stupidguy, but I didn't think too deeply about it.

NOW I finally have it! Rolling Stones - Stupid Girl. You're reply, Stupid Guy Too.

Love it.

Yours is more clever..
And I knew the tattoo- on-my-back would remind some here of my gender. Damn.
Busted again..
Desertblue..
Don't let the naysayers make you overthink it.
I'm not a fan of visible tats.. Something discreet is more personal.
I originally wanted the guy with the marbles in his mouth, something that be specific to Exile, but the tongue just says all you need it to say..
Mine is about the size of Aquamarine's... and the experience was the same: took about 20 minutes, a little sting and that was it. I've never regretted it. I love it.

If you get a tattoo, you should also get matching cargo shorts to complete the picture.
