Jeeeeez. So the end of this is where they edited in the 'everything's all right in the critic's section' etc on LOVE YOU LIVE. Why didn't THIS song make THAT album!!??

Seems that they could have released, say, 3 sides from The Mocambo show and one side a best of the tour (Honky Tonk Women, Star Star, Fingerprint File and You Gotta Move).

The only unacceptable guitar sound for me was 1994 tour .Too clean , but at smaller venues one year later Keith's sound was gorgous.I like simplicity of his contemporary sound -it's like old very expensive Wine.89-90 was his greatest effort in searching for various expressions - raw sustained overdrive for solos ,several shades of clean and crunchy sounds.

Even the O2 concerts were great (sound-wise), and the 6 European gigs I have seen in 2014 were fabulous. Raw, dirty and meaty. Yeah, the 355 is a bit clinky, but otherwise Keith remains an example how the make to most from the simplest possible set up.

I also did like his sound on this tour. But especially his tele sound. For example I really enjoyed the sound on jjf. It was kind of right in your face sound. Not too distorded, but kind of dry and loud....

Keith might be one of the only rock superstar guitarists who doesn't use a distortion/boost pedal of some sort. I think it limits his sounds unnecessarily and often wonder if he is too lazy or stubborn to experiment in that department. He might have boxed himself in early on when he was often quoted as saying "it's all in the fingers, we just plug the guitars into the amps and turn 'em up".

Keith has used various boost and distortion pedals since 1975. Volume boosts, line drivers, overdrives etc by MXR, Fulltone, Zinky, Boss, Boogie, Ibanez and what more. All are operated by the techs behind the amps.

Seems to me he is pretty sparse on his use of effects but I'd love to know what specifically he used on this last tour and on what tunes. Are the techs engaging the effects during songs for solos or is it just a "this effect for this song" approach. Strange that Keith doesn't want to control the effects himself but I guess the setlist and arrangements are so solid that the risks are few and results are predictable.

Yes thanks Koen, I've enjoyed some of the many guitar threads here on IORR. I was just hoping Mathijs could shed some light on the specific effects that Keith uses since they are hidden behind the amps and not so obvious as the guitars he is using.

I've made and used many pedalboards over the years and my bag of tricks is constantly evolving. I have two separate pedalboards, one for acoustic instruments and one for electric instruments. I think the only effect that hasn't changed in all the years is my trusty MXR Dyna Comp.

There is a good shot of the Tube Tape Echo he uses tucked behind his amp in this short video. It would be great to see a video of Pierre walking us through Keiths rig and effects ala the Premier Guitar rig rundown series.

Nice catch. Looks like an MXR Bass Envelope Filter, Boss BD-2 Blues Driver, and possibly an MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe (?)...probably Darryl's gear would be my guess.
