I totally agree with your last comment mickschix! This is also funny because while I was in New York this week I must have walked by that building about 20 times... I had no idea he used to live there! Nowadays he stays at the Carlyle so I've heard...

Fantastic story, mickschix (and great pic, too)thumbs upthumbs up. Amazing how your 6th sense informed you that your paths were about to cross so you could be lookin' fly w/ fresh lipstick when the 2 of you came face to face winking smiley. Hats off to you for maintaining composure throughout. What a perfect encounter!

Mickschics - that is a wonderful story!!
Second: Now we all know your deserve your iorr-name 110%!
And third: You showed again that the most important rule about being a Stones fan
is:

to l e t i t r o l e!

Just go for it and give luck the space to appear.

Thanks everyone, and Plink, I have often thought how perfect it was. I have thought back to those moments hundreds of times since and thought " Why didn't you invite him to lunch"? but he was obviously going somewhere...I think to run in the Park but maybe off to the recording studio...I have to just let it be what it was. If anyone has had a meeting with their #1 person on the planet they'll know what I mean about wishing you could replay a bit of it...say something better, just one more thing to add....
I have had lightning strike yet another time, meeting Mick in Montreal in April 1998 but I have no photographic evidence and I HAD my better camera with me....talk about ridiculous luck with cameras...
Again thanks to all for the kind words.

Thanks guys. That's not a BEARD on Mick by the way..it's a shadow from his windbreaker. I had my 35mm camera locked up back at my hotel, had a cheap Kodak camera with me!!! BAD LUCK! It would have been an incredible photo if taken with my GREAT CAMERA instead of that piece of crap. Thanks to Rockman for kindly posting the photo for me.
The Readers' Digest version of the story is this: I went to NYC explicitly to see if I could meet Mick. The NY Post had printed a photo a few days earlier of Mick in that same jacket " in front of his penthouse on Central Park West & 81st St..." just down 3 blocks from the Dakota. My pal Kat & I packed fast on a Friday and went to NYC...never went near that street until the day we were to return..Sunday afternoon. We went to the Natural History Museum, left at 2PM and headed back down Central Park West...towards the Langham, the building Mick lived in at the time w/ Jerry. It was March 20, 1982, the Tattoo You Tour had ended, Mick was living in NYC at the time...as Kat& I walked down the street I stopped in my tracks..said, " We're about to meet Mick...I can feel it..Where's my lipstick?" Kat thought I was wacky but I put lipstick on, fixed the hat and on we went..no more than another 2 blocks..again I stopped..I whispered " That's Mick"...she said NO WAY...of course it was. She called out to him and he turned around slowly..we spooked him and I was sure he'd run but when he saw we were a couple of fans he started to walk towards me with his hand extended saying " Hello, I'm Mick, how are you?" HOW AM I!?? I am frozen, stuck to the sidewalk, that's how I was!!! It was a miracle that I just started to chat with him about the tour, the 2 shows I'd seen, talked about their music a bit, and then I remembered that I had always wanted to thank him for bringing so much joy into my life with all of those years of amazing music. He smiled BIG and thanked me, held my hand...OMG...and Kat asked if she could take a photo of us and we got real close..I started to put my arm around his waist but dropped it to my side, not wanting to be pushy. He turned to look at me, smiled and grabbed me around the waist and the photo was snapped! He KNEW I was being respectful. So, we chatted more, he asked where I lived..I almost FORGOT! Told him we were just taking in the sights, the museum, clubs and restaurants. His cab came and the doorman escorted him away but he shook my hand once again,, waved bye from the cab, and off he went....
I was SO CALM until he was out of view and then I cried a little. Actually I was very numb. We went off to call home because everyone told us we were CRAZY to think that in a city of 8 million, we'd FIND MICK JAGGER! They ALL ate a lot of CROW.
End of story, sorry it was a bit longer than I wanted it to be. To say it moved me is a tremendous understatement! To think that he was so SWEET, patient, and kind blew my mind. I have often thought about what if he was not so wonderful...I would have been crushed..but he so exceeded any of my wildest dreams that I consider myself blessed.

Just so great that he was so nice to you...I mean you treated him respectfully and he reciprocated. Wonder what he would have been like if you were male?

Well....Keith talked TO me...

I was sitting on the edge of the stage at the Enmore Theatre warmup gig on the Licks tour in Sydney....best night of my life....when Keith went down on one knee, guitar straddling the other leg and, one handed (no hand on the strings/frets) started the opening riff of HTW.

He played it thru about 4 times before the rest of the band kicked in. But, just before they did, still on one knee and only about 3 feet in front of me, he looked straight at me, winked, grinned, and said

"How @#$%&' easy is this?"....

I will never forget it. I looked at my brother-in-law who was standing right next to me and he was laughing his head off...!

Such a great story, mickschix, and such a nice sentiment, too.

The closest I got was Mick Taylor walking past me when I was stood by the back entrance of the Ambassadors Theatre after the Boogie for Stu concert. I didn't try and approach him for an autograph or anything as he seemed to want to just get away and I didn't want to harass him.

I talked to him after a concert, and he was very friendly - a nice Person and great to talk to. But thenI amnot the admiring fan so we had a vey normal talk and not the "Man, you were great on the classic Stones Albums"-thing. It must have hurt him being so underused during the past tour (although he would hardly mention it).

Hey Mitch, this is an exerpt from the book I referenced. It's one after another, stories about fans' encounters with the Stones. It's a great read. This guy is right, after meeting up with someone that you have adored for so long, it does change your perspective...hopefully creates a lasting fantastic memory. Thanks, Aquamarine! winking smiley Loved that story bitusa!!!

In the nineties or begin 2000 I met Bill Wyman after his show with the Rythm Kings in Rotterdam walk with him up to the parking garage. He was leaving with a dutch man from the record company to Maastricht in the south of the Netherlands.

With the licks tour with Ronnie at his art show in Rotterdam. It was a short chat but I stood there with his art book for an autograph. I was the only one who got an autograph it was broadcast at the regional tv station.

August 2004 I had a chat with Ronnie in SF at the art exchange. After the show he went across the street to a show of Marianne Faithful

In Shanghai I was again at an art show from Ronnie and I gave him an old photograph from 1990 made in Rotterdam.

Ronnie at the Brussel hotel with the BB tour.

In Rome with the BB tour I met again Ronnie backstage.

Charlie in 2005 2 times in Atlanta I was walked in the elevator and he walked out. A day later at the lobby we shake hands. I was in the same hotel.

Keith in the Amstel hotel with the BB tour. He had a chat with someone next to me and he inclines with his head to me and my friends.

Chuck and his wife Rose in Shanghai and we talked for about a half an hour and he went to his room to get an childbook he has written for kids for my daugthers signed with a little story handwritten by Chuck.

Several times the rest of the backing band Blondie a lot of times we had a lot of drinks all over the world.
Bernard in Munich at the HRC Munich we had some drinks at the bar.

In Charlotte BB tour Mick was on the telephone with ??? discussing about where everybody will go at the short break they will have in the tour.

A lot of times I've seen the band at a lot of hotels all over the world.
And i think I forgot some meets I think.

I had some great memories to the Stones.
58 shows since 1990 all around the world.

I must shame I didn't see any from the GRRR tour and the 2014 shows.

You can't Always get what you want.

Well, when we it comes to terms of strange things a fan can do I have to admit this story here:

In 1987 I (German guy from Hamburg) visited my ex-girlfriend.
She married a guy who was doorman in the "Studio 54".
And later became a famous US-TV-Star.
But he told me as the big Stones-fan I was, that Mick Jagger lives not far away.
That he has a townhouse between Riverside Drive and West End Ave. He even told me the street and the housenummber. (which is still in my head, but just for being fair to Mick I won´t tell it anybody).
Well I didn´t believe, because this guy loved to play jokes one and I thought this was just another one.
But one quite sunday afternoon, nearly no traffic at all, I went through the neibourhood, went to Riverside drive, looked at the houses, and went to that adress. A normal littel townhouse. In a so and so shape. Nothing which is catching your eyes while walking down the street.
I stopped. I crossed the street. I went up the stairs to the door.
I looked: No name on it.
But a letterbox on the left. With a thick big envelope looking out of it.
Heartbeat! Fast.
I took it carefully out of the letterbox. A big envelope from SOTHEBYS. A catalogue obviously. I looked on the adressfield:
Adressed to
Michael P. Jagger.
Heartbeat! Turbo-fast!
I put it back.
I went away. I came back. I took it again.
And I saw: There was a second one from Sothebys, just the same again.
Ok I thought: If Mick has get this here double from those Sotheby-guys - I will take one.
So I did.
And I kept it under my guest bed.
Couldn't sleep. In my early twenties.
Around 5.30 next morning around I couldn´t bear it anymore:
I took the envelope, ran those blocks down to Mick´s house and put it carefully back.
And I´m still happy today 27 years later that I did it!!

The VERY show...! And I admit, whilst I recognised Angus straight away, with Malcolm it was a wee bit of a "who is that?" for a few seconds!! My brother in law, until that night an AC/DC nutter, converted to The Stones THAT NIGHT COZ OF THIS SHOW, pointed out to me who Malcolm was! Malcolm was actually, IMHO, stage stuck at being on stage with The Stones, he sort of was frozen in space/time for the song.

No doubt, & they were exceptional shows all right! I actually had tickets to the Sydney show a couple of days later, but the seats were up in the stands at an arena, and after sitting in the stage at a small theatre show I said to the wife I didn't want to diminish my memory of them by seeing them, basically, on the video screen. So we flew home to Perth 2 days early, unused tickets in my pocket.

I scored front row tickets to their forthcoming Arena show in Adelaide, THAT'LL be ok too, I would imagine!!!

I saw them the night after with decent, not great, seats at the MGM Grand Arena. That show was actually better! It was Sticky Fingers night. I was sitting close to the second stage & they did a stripped down version of Brown Sugar that was magical. Back to AC/DC for a minute. I spent almost a month in Australia in 2001. Happened to be in Sydney when AC/DC was doing a 7 night stand at a smallish (for them) arena. Caught the last night. You Aussies were riled up for that one! They were literally ripping the urinals off the wall, haha. Great show. Anyway, enjoy your Adelaide show! Think "Midnight Rambler" will blow you away. That was the highlight of the 50 & Counting show I saw.
