I've always liked Division Bell and feel it captures Floyd at their most Floydian since The Wall. When I became aware of the album I read about the creative process and wondered if there were outtakes floating around on bootlegs. Since there weren't, this is promising for me. IF the instrumental tracks on Endless River capture the same ambient and atmospheric sound on the Division Bell I feel this will be a great listen. Looking forward to it!

Yeah, it looks like it wouldn't have happened without Phil Manzanera who basically came up with the "concept", but I suppose that if Gilmour signed off on it and took over in the end it's worth it...it's not like he's been milking the PF name since 1994 ;-)

I'm quite sure that the tribute to Rick is honest.

Does anyone know what this? I haven't been able to find any information on it, but I wonder if its one of those semi-legit docs that talks about the band without using their music and talks to a friend of a roadies buddy.

The first teaser (the one with Dave's guitar) sounded promising. This one sounds like Yanni ... or maybe even John Tesh.

From Roger Waters' facebook page:

> Roger Waters

“Some people have been asking Laurie, my wife, about a new album I have coming out in November.
Errhh? I don’t have an album coming out, they are probably confused. David Gilmour and Nick Mason have an album coming out.
It’s called Endless River. David and Nick constitute the group Pink Floyd. I on the other hand, am not part of Pink Floyd.
I left Pink Floyd in 1985, that’s 29 years ago. I had nothing to do with either of the Pink Floyd studio albums,
Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell, nor the Pink Floyd tours of 1987 and 1994, and I have nothing to do with Endless River.
Phew! This is not rocket science people, get a grip.”

Cant blame him for wanting to distance himself from this version of "Pink Floyd".

Yeah, good for Roger. I mean a lot of his seething anger has dissipated, which is good, but I understand why he would want to distance himself from this project. A lot of the press releases of a new Pink Floyd album include stock photos of Roger playing live! This is purely a Pink Fraud project, however, good the music may be.

You can listen to the entire song "Louder Than Words" (that's the one with vocals) here. It's not bad, actually. Too bad Roger couldn't have contributed some vocals, though, because a little of his angst-ridden hollering buried deep in the mix would have made a perfect counterpoint to Gilmour's lead.

Oh, shit. The video's been "suspended due to a copyright claim." I'll see if it's still on Rolling Stone's site ....

Nope. It's been taken down from Rolling Stone's site as well. I guess you'll just have to take my word for it; It's not bad ....

And too bad Roger couldn't have written the lyrics. What Gilmour's wife has written is amatuer at best, and doesn't belong anywhere near the pink Floyd name.
I like Gilmours' vocals and always have, but if it's indeed "Louder than words, this thing that we do", then perhaps they should have left this as an instrumental.
As it stands, this tune is a mockery of the Pink Floyd legacy imo.

-----------------------------------------------------------

thumbs down

We bitch and we fight
Diss each other on sight
But this thing we do

These times together
Rain or shine or stormy weather
This thing we do

With world-weary grace
We've taken our places
We could curse it or nurse it and give it a name

It's louder than words
This thing that we do
Louder than words
The way it unfurls

It's louder than words
The sum of our parts
The beat of our hearts
Is louder than words
Louder than words

The strings bend and slide
As the hours glide by
An old pair of shoes
Your favorite blues
Gonna tap out the rhythm

Let's go with the flow
Wherever it goes
We're more than alive

It's louder than words
This thing that we do
Louder than words
The way it unfurls

It's louder than words
The sum of our parts
The beat of our hearts
Is louder than words
Louder than words

Yes, a great album, good songs, but also with Pat Leonard and Jeff Beck, RW managed to "emulate" Gilmour somehow to add some "musical class" that was missing on his previous outings, especially KAOS...

<<the pros and cons of hitchhiking>>

This might have been a Pink Floyd album, as the demos were presented to the other members for a listen, but Waters was also working on another album of demos that the rest of the band liked better: The Wall.

Got the new album off a torrent site today, while it contains some great music I decided to cancel the deluxe edition bluray with 5.1 sound!

It's listenable overall but that opening "It's What We Do" track which is a mashup of Shine On and Machine is...well, as if the Stones came out with a GS/SFTD mashup. Sounds good on paper but it's rather sad when you actually get to listen to it.

I just came back at home with the LPs and just listenned it once.
My very fisrt impression is that some moments are very good and some other a little bit weaker., but overall it's still sound Floyd. For me, it sounds better than the three previews.
I had to listen again.

Played the bluray once so far. First impression is very good, the sound is amazing. Considering it's not a full band effort I think it turned out quite nice overall. I like the song with lyrics. Seems like the last word from them. Maybe I'm wrong.

what is on this video ?

The Videos are more or less 'Making of' sequences. You see the Band playing (in black/white) and hear the Music of 'Endless River'.

If you have iTunes, you can get a preview of the Videos: [itunes.apple.com] .
