He says to open with Let's Spend the Night Together. They have never done this.

He is using 3 song titles that are older than Python sketches. That is the purpose: not to resemble some real life setlist.

GOMC is older than a python skit, and maybe JJF. they've been opening with those. I just seems like Micks detached "I don't even remember what we play or when It came out" routine. Or maybe he really doesn't remember.

He is not aiming to the articulate hardcore fan. He is aiming for the (British) "public common knowledge". And the 3 numbers he quoted are the "hardcore" of the live act's songs that are coming DEEP from the "British Invasion" era. "Common public knowledge" sees "Satisfaction", for an example, as THE Stones Live act representation, even though I can think of 5 songs (at least) that are much more worm out. Still - people would say "Stones live=Satisfaction". Same for the songs Jagger used for this sketch. There is some thinking behind this sketch.

Charlie watches TV just like I do.
Now no one can tell me to sit straight. If it's good enough for Charlie, it's good enough for me.

Ah, but Charlie's been known to smile, not so the Great Stoneface (the Bill Wyman on stage of Silent Comedy).

The Commander really summarizes the critisism about the band on this blogg in the sketch. Great! maybe he reads IORR after all?
And Charlie doing the Harpo Marx look! Hilarious! Better than a Rolling Stones concert!

Too, too funny! Still laughing at Charlie's eyebrows...as much as he complains sometimes about not liking the whole rock star thing, you can see here that Charlie does really enjoy some of those perks, like getting to do a silly commercial. grinning smiley

<<Mick is taking over for Hari it seems.>>

<<I wonder who's idea the gag was ?>>

Yes, an unexpected choice. Before, when you typed "Mick Jagger Monty Python" into the search engine, you would have gotten zero results, and now there are pages and pages generated from just hours ago.

But, of course, with George Harrison and Keith Moon no longer around, the Pythons thought they would bring in third banana, since Mick is a still-active rock star from the 60s that everyone still knows of.

Publicity bits like this are a positive spin for Mick, and by extension, the rest of the Stones themselves, because it makes it harder for others to make fun of them, if they are doing it first. One of Mick's great strengths has been his sense of humor--one of the reasons he has such an enduringly solid image with the media and public.

Hope they'll do the Ministry Of Silly Walks as an encore in Stockholm.

I guess it won't happen:

From many Python books in my collection, off the top of my head, I remember that when Chapman died in 1989, the Stones sent a flower wreath with the words "thanks for all the laughs".

Mick appeared in Idle's Rutles TV special in 1978, great stuff.

Edited - just googled for confirmation, can't believe I've found the funeral bit online, my memory isn't that bad - [www.people.com]

'The Commander'! >grinning smiley< I agree with your post from beginning to end!

^ Oh yes, forgot about Mick's involvement in the Rutles--however, the first several pages of search engine pages are crammed full with this new press conference sketch.

Speaking of the Rutles, it sounds very close to the Rattles. The name is currently used by a Beatles tribute band, but in the 60s there actually was a beat group from Germany by that name, who once played alongside the Beatles in Hamburg's Star Club and later were one of the opening acts for the Stones (in 1963).

All you need is Beat (Beat! Beat! Beat! that is)....

Oh, and if you're looking for the Graham Chapman funeral bit--the bit that Cleese did--that one's always a classic....

Mick is so friggin cute and ageless.

That was painful for Charlie. He'd rather be drawing the hotel room.

My sister and her husband are going to the first Python gig tonight.

They haven't seen this Mick and Charlie video yet but told them it was on youtube.

I guess that is the only place you can watch it?

Thanks I enjoyed that. "The best one died years ago" black but very funny. Self deprecation suits Mick I think.

It IS for real ! They played the video before their actual PC apparently : [m.rollingstone.com]

"They must be coining it" - hehe...I wondered what he was saying there exactly.

I thought Chuck made the setlist suggestions, oh well...

Anyone catch the reference to Patrick, the Stones lighting man?
Comes at the start of this video.

Anyone who has the Glastonbury DVD will notice during Brown Sugar or Satisfaction I think ,Mick shouting , 'Turn the lights on Patrick'.
Not much response, then 'Patrick...........................turn the lights on'.

Patrick ,did finally turn the lights on. winking smiley

Yes, I was wondering if it was the same "Patrick" (Patrick Woodroff certainly [patrickwoodroffe.com]) presumably he was on hand at Glasto ;-) In Paris Mick asked for more lighting on the crowd too but it wasn't Patrick so he was probably already working on the Python's show at the O2 ;-)
