the Stones are just so much better than in ...
They were better in 2003 but the current batch of shows is the best they've done since Nov. 2012.

Sorry US fans, in 2013 you saw a band that was just warming up. grinning smiley Otoh you had more Taylor added to the formula.

We need equal quality of the videos you post before we can be the judge of that smiling smiley

The 2014 video here has almost no Keith in the mix. We know that's not how it sounds in the arena.

.... In my opinion, today the Stones sound better tour 2003 or more during that period. The guitars are now at the center of everything, maybe it's also about the Wood that sounds a lot good today.

bye bye johnny
why does a post of mine get deleted in which i simply worry that Keef might
trip over the scarf? looks like a real possibility here. i didn't mean to say
it would be teh end of Keef, rather the end of his relationship with the scarf.

NOTE FROM THE IORR EDITOR:

1. Your post was not deleted, just the large quoted image
2. Keith did never fall over due to a "scarf incident" last night in Madrid
3. There is a fine line between funny posts and bad information

I've seen a lot of shows, and there's no way that they are better in 2014 than they were in 2003 or 2005-2006. I think that they are more consistent than they were post-Coconut Tree, which had a few shows where Keith just seemed to be struggling. I also think that they are slowing down - it's noticeable to me.

Regardless, the fact that it's even a real question is a testament to how great this band is, even at their age.

Back from Madrid. A great night, thanks to the Stones and Event Travel – after the disastrous Ticketmaster sale, I resorted in desperation to a GA Early Entry package with Event Travel and, mysteriously, this turned out to be early entry to the pit, Ronnie’s side (for the price of face value of a normal pit ticket). On most past occasions I had FOS tickets but I have never managed to get so close to stage as this time.

It is great to see the boys and their interaction from so close. Entirely different experience! Although, surprisingly, the sound at the front was not ideal, there was quite a lot of echo, especially when Mick or Lisa were on the catwalk.

I thought the show had two different halves. Keith did not seem to be completely there in the first half. JJF and YGMR were fine but he was fragile in Angie, Like a Rolling Stone (a good version anyway, what a nice surprise!), IORR and Can’t Be Seen. Ronnie did a great job to support him at this stage. I think Keith knew because he thanked the band after CBS. After that, as by magic, Keith became focused, confident and was leading the band. Mick was as impressive as ever, it is just unbelievable that he can pull it off night after night…

The crowd, at least in the pit, was the youngest and wildest from the 5 shows I have seen this tour. It is amazing how the Stones are able to attract new and new generations of fans…

To me its more about was the concert fun!

Funny after EVERY Stones show I went to I went away
thinking that it was the VERY BEST concert I ever went to.

I am not a music teacher and don't care if they hit every note
or Jagger was off key. I just went for the experience. For the party.
To be entertained.

I was at the 78 Philly show which many think was one of their worst concerts.
Even though it was a short concert the Stones really rocked and I loved it.

And now that they are in their 70's...Wow many guys of their generation
are dead or in nursing homes..

They are giving it their all...So have fun and Party on!!

And if you are so busy looking for mistakes then it tells me you are
NEVER going to have a good time.

some of the stuff i'm hearing here is insane! have you humans actually listened to some great shows from Licks? dude listen to Roseland, Aragon, MSG (Sept '02), Cleveland, some of these shows are completely off the hook and blow away anything they are doing on this tour. Listen to Keith on some of these shows, he's unbelievable! some of you must be smoking crack.

At times Mick's timing is a bit wierd, but it's still a great version!

YES! GREAT VERSION! A surprise - Chuck is wrong here. The intro is only two times, not three. Keith gets it right. Anyway - they rock!

Mick forgets where to start, and they're doing a round of the verse before he joins in, that's all smiling smiley

Did I hear him sing :

" Thinking,Drinking That They've Got It Made "

instead of ........

" Drinking,Thinking That They've Got It Made " ???

I am all for taking liberty with altering lyrics with slight variations in live renditions but, that just does not make any sense.

Otherwise, not too bad for not having been performed in nearly 11 years.

+1000

THIS is the point which really needs to be made. The fact that as mostly 70-somethings the band can still it can still be a question at this point is quite an accomplishment. Of course there's a natural decline associated with age but that decline is incremental when compared to the 10-15 years or more between 2014 shows and those the 14 on Fire ones are being compared to.

When was the last time they played " Like A Rolling Stone"?

Licks Tour. Unsure of date.

Chicago, September 13, 2002, according to [www.timeisonourside.com] .

That was the FIRST time that it was performed on the 2002 / 2003 Licks Tour.

At the top of the page,it states :

" CITY & DATE 1st PERFORMED " .

They played it quite regularly on the Licks Tour, especially in 2003.

Examples : Boston , MADRID etc. .

They played it regularly before the Licks tour as well, so that info (when it was first performed on the Licks tour) is really strange confused smiley

No, it quite clearly means it was first performed on that date FOR THAT TOUR.

I think the current gigs are slightly better overall - and at times clearly better- than 2003 and the reason has name: Ronnie Wood...

Yeah he's very good now : focused, articulated, sober... He certainly covers Keith's arse on a regular basis.

I personally don't think that the Stones in 2014 are better than in 2003... It's the Keith factor, he's not been the same since the coconut tree incident. But in 2014 are good enough for me and certainly better than in 2007. And Keith, even not in his prime, surely has some of his chops back compared to those 2007 shows. His groove and rhythm sense are still there and unchallenged, and with the exceptions I mentioned before, he was great last night.
