The 1999 "BTB"-tour was just an extra because of the tax-thing. It would have been weirder had they gone back to the 97 setlist?
i thought it happened because Keef fell from a ladder
in his library, broke ribs so they had to reschedule
some gigs? on the bootleg i posted above, Keef says
before YGTS: "i get to sit down!" and someone in the
audience replies: "du bist auch von der leiter gefallen!"
(you fell from your ladder)

Keith's rib injury pushed the Euro tour back. The tax thing, I think Mick said for some reason they would have wound up spending too many days in Europe and would've lost a ton of money so they cancelled and had to wait X amount of days to go back, hence the BTB tour having the NS setlist (sort of).

It was just 6 shows (apart from the "tax shows") - not the "BTB-tour", as such.

Here's the setlist of the first euro-show:

The set list:

Jumping Jack Flash
You Got Me Rocking
Bitch
Gimme Shelter
Honky Tonk Women
Angie
Shattered
Saint of Me
Some Girls
Out Of Control
Paint It Black
-- Introductions --
You Got The Silver (Keith)
Before They Make Me Run (Keith)
Route 66 (B-stage)
Get Off Of My Cloud (B-stage)
Midnight Rambler (B-stage)
Tumbling Dice
It's Only Rock'n Roll
Start Me Up
Brown Sugar
Sympathy for the Devil (encore)

And here's the setlist of the last US-show. Pretty similar, but some differences:

The set list:

Jumping Jack Flash
Bitch
You Got Me Rocking
Gimme Shelter
Honky Tonk Women
Moonlight Mile
Saint of Me
Some Girls
Paint It Black
-- Introductions --
Thief In The Night (Keith)
You Don't Have To Mean It (Keith)
Out Of Control
Route 66 (B-stage)
Get Off Of My Cloud (B-stage)
Midnight Rambler (B-stage)
Tumbling Dice
It's Only Rock'n Roll
Start Me Up
Brown Sugar
Sympathy for the Devil (encore)

You Don't Have To Mean It and Thief got played on that tour as well! That's awesome. I'm glad those songs got some life to 'em.

That was an interesting time for The Rolling Stones. The US 1999 tour got a huge write up in USA Today. I think they did 5 days in a row about it, their past, etc. I never could understand that. The tour was sold out yet they still went overboard on the hype.

I remember radio ads touting that they were playing Moonlight Mile and Some Girls for the first time.

Pittsburgh is generally considered the apex of that tour.

it was the last tour again. if not the last tour ever, still the last tour of the millennium

I always felt that since they were returning to arenas that made it a big deal as well.

arenas in the US, that is. my first time was here:

you might notice, there's the Daimler Stadium nearby,
but they chose to play in the dusty desert of Stuttgart.
usually it's a Fair Ground

Which might say something about their desire to actually play instead of make bank.

There's a Sister Morphine bootleg called Casino Boogie - Las Vegas '99. That's a great one. I don't know much about the NS Tour otherwise. I wish we had a full blown DVD release.

Not if any good soundboards came out from1999.... I know philly was flawed, all of them seemed to be missing keith , but there some great audience recordings

I went to both shows in DC. I saw the first night from the front of the upper deck on stage left. Pretty good, not great. I recall that the sound was lousy. But when is it ever good in The Phone Booth (as the MCI/Verizon Center is known)?

For the second night, my seat was in the upper deck, but I had a low level backstage pass (courtesy of my touring buddy, a bartender in NYC who included someone from ABKCO among his regular customers). We didn't meet anyone in the band, but we got some free beer out of it. After the Corrs set, we headed from the backstage area to the floor and found some unoccupied seats about 20-25 rows back. We figured we'd hang there until the ticketholders arrived. Well, they never did. The Stones were in fine form, and I had the best seats I've ever had for a Stones show. It may have been my best ever Stones show experience in the 24 I've seen since 1978. The B-stage set, with Route 66 and Rambler, was particularly smoking!

Yes, the B-stage was monster on that tour. There is nothing left in the post-Wyman era I want from the Stones other than a good No Security DVD.

I saw both the San Jose shows. Weird night on one of them because that was the day of the Columbine shootings in US. Years later I saw them in Denver on day the space shuttle blew up.

this was a very special tour due to the return to arenas. living in the detroit area at this time the stones had only played at the horrible pontiac silverdome since 1981 and on this tour they played at the palace of auburn hills, a much smaller arena sized venue. it was a big big deal.

Totally agree with you mnewman505....seeing them at the Palace of Auburn Hills was one of the best stones shows ever...great seats...much better sound than that siliverdome.....Need a DVD of this tour.

Absolutely concur that Mar. 15 in Philly was awesome. Tour debut for Get Off My Cloud, I think. Really hot show and Out of Control, was out of control. Saw them in D.C. on Mar. 8 and although it was a good show, paled in comparison to Mar. 15 in Philly. Got to hear Moonlight Mile, Respectable, Get off My Cloud all for the first time live for me. Paint it Black was well done and Keith's set was much better in Philly than D.C.

There is a radio broadcast out there of this show.

Pittsburgh, Philly, DC and Boston were the ones I hit.

Pittsburgh has a special place in my heart. Hometown and fantastic show.

Alright guys. So many mentions of Pittsburg I think I need to resume this project... (anyone know the original taper or have access to the master recording?)

The original recording is what I describe as 'shrill' on the b-stage. The main stage sound is a bit boomy/muddy, but still very listenable. The b-stage is absolutely on-fire because you can actually hear Ronnie for once! The guy is always working on stage, but so often we can't hear him at the proper volume. If he was lower in the mix, the reviews of the show might not be so glowing!

Wasn't No Security the tour where all the soundboards were from the feed meant for those with serious hearing problems? Seriously - I forget the technical details, but that was the jist of it.

Yeah, if there was ever a tour to hear Ronnie 10x louder than Keith... this one wasn't it.

Even though I have been a Stones fan since 1964 for a number of reasons the NS Tour was the first time I actually saw them live. I went to three shows in 1999, Anaheim, Kansas City and Las Vegas and regardless of which show was the best, etc. the Stones impressed me so much that I have seen them 57 times since then. Health and logistics reasons prevented me from seeing any shows this year but I sure hope to make up for that next year, the good Lord willing!!! grinning smiley

My daughter went to the Anaheim show with me (my first live Stones show ever!) and I was so excited to finally see them that I started hyperventilating majorly before the Stones even hit the stage, I wasn't sure if I was going to live long enough to fulfill my dream!!! eye popping smiley My daughter still makes fun of me about that to this day.

Of those three shows the Kansas City one was on my birthday which made it extra special of course, the Anaheim show was my first but I missed most of it trying to breathe normally so I have to say that the Vegas show was the best by default. We had great seats right by the stage for that one and I'll never forget the outstanding MR on the b-stage that night but SFTD and how the crowd reacted and was forever singing the Wooo Wooo's as we were walking out of the arena and back to the casino and even still in there afterwards stole the show for me and I was hooked forever.

Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind...
