Robbie RobertsonĀ“s solo at 3:10 on It makes no difference from The last waltz is heartbreakingly beautiful; especially with the tenor sax solo coming just after.

I still see Stupidguy2's point, this is not so much about songs that you would also hear on Classic Rock stations like songs by Queen and so on. Yes, they made a bit of a pop crossover hit in those songs.

"Bad to me" by Billy J. Kramer has some nice guitar, I'm not really wired for sound.

The Carly Simon is probably on point.

You got it.

This guy again...almost Taylor-esque. But he apparently has no face.

I had totally forgot:
Michael Jackson - Beat It (Eddie Van Halen)

That has to be one of the greatest solos ever in a pop song.

Amos Garrett's solo on Midnight at the Oasis (Maria Muldaur).

Real good topic and fine choices by all.

Joy - Apollo 100

Get Together - Youngbloods

I love the guitars in Get Together - great pick!.
I have never been able to figure out what he's doing - it sounds like an open tuning, but then it doesn't. It gives the song a real graceful, mournful quality to it.

Some very cool choices on this thread and I especially appreciate props to the underrated Youngbloods, even if it is via their only hit. There are some terrific guitar solos on their first three albums. "Get Together" and this one I believe were done by Jerry Corbitt, who left before their third LP.

4 In the Morning

And though it was only a hit in mine and a few other living rooms, here is the greatest solo of all time, all two notes of it.

I Can't Hide

Ahh.. I wish I had posted that one. Exquisite. That's the only word for it.

Larry Carlton played a lot of nice guitar with Steely Dan. But even Walter Becker's solo at Bad Sneakers is wonderful.

The electric guitar in Karla Bonnoff's "Someone to lay beside me" - great solo in hi register, but also the riffing throughout in the chorus.

Great topic

While I am not a big fan of the Dan, Lots of great guitar work can be found in their music by an array of guitarists including a guy who lives down the street from me. And I will add his solo to Bodhisattva to that list.
