Marianne Faithfull new LP
Posted by: boston2006 ()

Marianne Faithfull collaborated with a number of fellow rock luminaries to create her forthcoming, new album, Give My Love to London. Roger Waters, Nick Cave, Steve Earle, Anna Calvi, Pat Leonard and Tom McRae all wrote music, to which Faithfull supplied lyrics, Pitchfork reports.

Her backing band on the album includes Ed Harcourt, Portishead's Adrian Utley, and the album's producers, Rob Ellis and Dimitri Tikovoi. Members of Cave's backing band, the Bad Seeds – Warren Ellis and Jim Sclavunos – made special guest appearances on the album as well. The record is due out in September.

In addition to planning her album release and lining up a world tour for the fall, Faithfull will publish a book of photos of herself from throughout her career along with commentary she wrote herself. The tome, Marianne Faithfull: A Life on Record, will come out in October.

Over the past 15 years, Faithfull has teamed with a number of notable musicians for her records. Waters and Emmylou Harris guested on her 1999 album Vagabond Ways, which featured her recording of the otherwise unreleased Elton John–Bernie Taupin collaboration "For Wanting You" and Waters' "Incarceration of a Flower Child," a song the bassist had written for but did not record with Pink Floyd in 1968. In 2003, she worked with Beck, Billy Corgan, Pulp, Blur and Eurythmics' Dave Stewart. She also collaborated with Cave on her 2005 album, Before the Poison, which also featured musical contributions from PJ Harvey, Blur's Damon Albarn and producer Jon Brion.

Thanks for the info. Boston2006 and Cristiano. I always enjoy seeing Marianne live. She puts on a good show and never fails to entertain, so I'm looking forward to seeing her yet again in November. I imagine she'll be singing some of the covers from this new album. It would be great if Nick Cave put in an appearance!

I saw her on an unplugged concert with Doug Pettibone in 2011 and it was wonderful. I'm not sure if Nick Cave (one of my favorite singers and one of the concerts I still want to see) will appear on her show, since he will be in Australia. But who knows? smiling smiley

Here's another pic. According to her Facebook page, it was taken by the photographer Stephan Sednaoui this year for the new album.

BTW, Marianne is not the only one with a photo where she appears smoking on the cover album. Ginger Baker released his new album with a similar cover.

I'm sure she's cool in person but musically she's fairly frightening. I loved the Whiskey's the Rage but R&R Circus was a Lonnng Time ago. Either way, good luck to Marianne, I hope it does well.

Marianne has a career of her own, though mostly everybody remembers her for Something Better, Sister Morphine and As Tears Go By. For instance, her Rich Kid Blues album is awesome, and sounds as fresh as it were recorded today.

Now, on her 50th anniversary it was launched her YouTube channel, with a lot of intersting videos.

Send "Dreamin My Dreams" Ringtone to your Cell

I hope that I won't be that lone anymore
Maybe I've learned this time.
I hope that I find what I'm reaching for,
The way that is easin' my mind.

Some day I'll get over you,
I'll live to see it all through,
But I'll always miss
Dreamin' my dreams
With you.

But I won't let it change me, not if I can,
I'd rather believe in love.
I'll give it away as much as I can
To those that I'm fondest of.

Some day I'll get over you,
I'll live to see it all through,
But I'll always miss
Dreamin' my dreams
With you.

La, la la, la la la, la la,
La la, la la, la la.
La la la la, la la la la la,
La la, la la, la la.

Some day I'll get over you,
I'll live to see it all through,
But I'll always miss
Dreamin' my dreams
With you.

But I'll always miss
Dreamin' my dreams
With you.
