How is it even possible to make a rocker this mellow and soft-sounding (listen to the instrumental bridge), yet so swinging and raw?

The guitar sounds make a perfect match, with Ronnie's clean and soft sound, and Keith's ranchy Mesa Boogie-sound.

Great playing by everyone, but the drums and the bass deserve an extra mention, imo.

Excellent song, excellent production. Brilliant rocker, underrated of course. Every single member of he band shines on this. The combined effort is timeless. I love this track, it's one of my favorites.

The Stones reinvent their classic sound and bring it right up to date for the 1980s with a little help from a digital delay effect.

Jagger's lyrics echo the classic wooing technique employed by European poets down the ages of attempting to melt the moral frigidity of their lady loves - the best example being English poet Andrew Marvel's celebrated To His Coy Mistress.

He's one of the verses of this epic poem.

But at my back I always hear
Time's winged chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie
Deserts of vast eternity.
Thy beauty shall no more be found,
Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound
My echoing song; then worms shall try
That long preserv'd virginity,
And your quaint honour turn to dust,
And into ashes all my lust.
The grave's a fine and private place,
But none I think do there embrace.

This is one of my all time favourite songs!

A stone-cold classic from the Stones in their late ‘70s Renaissance period, and possibly the slinkiest track they have ever recorded. She’s So Cold is a perfect melding of country boogie and the blues, with an extraordinarily propulsive rhythmic undertow.

The production here is immaculate; the sound … wow … it friggin’ leaps out of the speakers. The guitar-weaving is sublime … the Nashville-tinged twang of Ronnie on the lead, that glorious chugga-chugga growl of Keith on the rhythm, and Bill holding it all together … it all melds into sonic bliss. And Charlie has never sounded better either … so crisp, so loose and yet so tight at the same time. Mick is at the top of his game, boiling over with sexual frustration, yet knowing that he will have the last laugh … when the ice-cold object of his unrequited lust finds her beauty has vanished over time. We even get a tasty moan from Bobby’s sax.

And it's so much more complex than you would catch on a casual list. For example: There are several layers of vocals that are not at all loud in the mix but they add something to the lead vocal track.

As you can see from my signature, I love this song. A bloody brilliant rock tune. I have yet to hear it live, so bring it on in Oslo/Lisboa, please!

As a teenager, I used to play this really loud, sing equally loud and dance around in our living room. I still do that, but in my own apartment now.

Cool song! And a nice lead-in to "She Was Hot".

Love the studio version. The live ones from the 81/82 tours were way too fast and bit all over the place.
I think its one of those songs which should be kept in the studio.

Great example of how they managed for decades to always sound like the stones and sound new and fresh at the same time.
Great song, especially the studio version. Although I also love the live version where they f*** it up (Wembley 1982 I think).

this one started it all for me 34 years ago. listening to am radio and it came on it was like a bolt of electricity to my system.

bought the 45 then the album, then the entire catalogue, many times over.

I still love this song because it's beautiful though.

Please don't Dagger, I know a little about a lot of things, but am an expert in none. As I'm sure you know, "a little learning is a dangerous thing..."

Love this track so much. I am about to drive across town. Think I'll put it on!

This is the first Stones song to have that great "clicking" sound—for lack of a better term—for the guitar that subsequently appeared on on Slave, Hang Fire, and parts of Start Me Up. I've never been able to duplicate it on my guitar.

Also, I'll admit to putting on She's So Cold and Too Tight after a couple of those RARE occasions (*cough, cough*) beautiful women have yawned in my face.

The best Bill Wyman 'rubber bass' of all.
