Nice article, but by just limiting his analysis to Charlie's work with the Glimmers over simplifies it a little bit. I believe, as others do, that part of Charlie's magic was the way he worked with Bill, the way they locked and grooved off each other. Watts & Wyman were one hell of rhythm section!

I haver all his jazz CD's and it has made me appreciate jazz. He plays a lot of classics but its all great. His influence in their music has always been overlooked.

Charlie Watts is THE MAN. Every other drummer in history is completely wrong for the Stones. They all overplay or don't have the right cadence. Charlie knows the art of when NOT to play, which provides a beautiful canvas for the rest of the music.

And when he wanted to he could challenge the rest of the band see whether they can keep up...

Yeah, it's been very interesting to learn that Jelly Roll Morton and Charlie Parker played drums, isn't it?

Charlie is not only one of the best drummers in rock, but maybe one of the best men in rock. Not too cocky, not too shy, gives hilarious (and sometimes awkward) interviews, and he punched Mick Jagger out. Mick Jagger apologized to Charlie afterwards.

(According to Keith, anyways).
