Why don't the Stones play New Orleans? The last time they played was in '94. Were they banned?

In 94 the Superdome was about 1/3 or 1/4 filled.

Attendance wasn't quite that bad. We now have an arena next to the Superdome, but with Houston and Atlanta just a few hours drive from here and no other major markets close by, I doubt we'll see them here.

80,000 in 78, 87,500 in 81.........why pick on 1994. Not every VL stadium was sold out. Many had empty seats. New Orleans had historically been a very strong Stones town.

Absolutely! Bourbon Street within walking distance of the arena, music joints all over town, and the best damn seafood in the Gulf South. The band took a week's break here during the '94 tour.

I doubt they were banned. New Orleans would do anything to bring a dollar into the city, which may be part of the reason why they haven't played here recently. Until a couple of years ago, N.O. had an "amusement tax" which stated that any venue that had live music would be asessed a tax. I don't know exactly how it was implemented, but I remember around '00-'01 the tax was raised and many small clubs that offered free live music chose to discontinue the entertainment rather than charge a cover and drive away their regular clientele. I would think that this would not be a huge issue for acts that draw large crowds, but I have often wondered about it. I hope someone can shed some additional light on this.

Of course it would be a great town for a show. But Michael Cohl probably doesn't think it has the same sales potential as other nearby shows. Plus, maybe the New Orleans Arena refuses to pay the huge guarantee Cohl demands.
