The Who announce an extra tour date and name their special guests

The Who have confirmed a powerful lineup of special guests set to join them on their final North American run, The Song Is Over Tour. Artists including Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters, Billy Idol, Booker T. Jones, Candlebox, Feist, Joe Bonamassa, The Joe Perry Project (Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Buck Johnson, Chris Robinson, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz), Tom Cochrane, and ZZ Ward will appear across various stops on the historic farewell tour.

Additionally, The Who have added a second night in Chicago, IL — Tuesday, September 9 at United Center — due to incredible fan demand. Joe Bonamassa will support both Chicago dates.

Yeah let invite these people but we're firing our 3rd most important member who has worked with us for 30 years.
It's all Roger and I feel sorry for Zak and Pete. Good luck!

This is really unfortunate and an embarrassment for Pete & Roger and their legacy.

Steve Jordan commented on Zaks post -

"Zak.... we all know what's up... just keep rockin' like your dad.... it's all good... it's been said, "the truth will set you free".... You will be surely missed and everyone will FEEL IT! If the band doesn't care anymore, certainly the FANS DO.... They deserve better...."

Utterly abominable. And after Roger had the gall to claim catgorically that the previously reported antics of his were all fake news. He should come clean instead of hiding behind Pete, which is what it looks like yet again.

I agree, it all stinks rather badly. What a horrible and grubbily stained exit from the world stage for the mighty WHO. It saddens me enormously.

This had nothing to do with my decision not to go to the Vancouver show...though it reinforces with me that I made a sound decision (for myself).

The song is indeed over.

More like Schizophrenia.

Pete’s just turned 80. Hopefully he keeps writing after retiring The Who. Always have welcomed his perspective. Roger was a great singer and quick wit in his prime, but appears to be losing it. Hope he’s doing alright.

"The truth will set you free" What the heck Steve. You sound like you reading from a poster from a teenage girls bedroom. Cut it out with the BS little kiddy sayings.

Do what I do, get cheap upper bowl tickets! I'm there to see Pete and Roger anyway, just like last month, seeing Brian and Angus.

Why are people defending Starkey? Nobody was there to know the full story.

it's a good point but at the moment it sure looks like rodger wanted zak out so he could have his solo drummer in the band instead

but i'm open to hearing rodger and pete's side of this

And him having done the same thing to Rabbit 15 years ago (which has also been worse for the band imo), I think he has form here.

Yup:

1. They did the same thing with Rabbit, which Pete openly admits. He said in that interview not long ago if he was putting together the band he wanted he'd include Rabbit and that still apparently doesn't hold any sway (ironically in that interview he also says he wouldn't pick Zak for drums, so take that for what it is)

But more importantly 2. maybe there's a justifiable reason to let Zak go, even after all this time, but I genuinely can't think of a reason to fire him, rehire him, then fire him again. Fire him then go out as Pete did and say "this was all blown out of proportion and don't believe everything you read" only to fire him again. If you were gonna do it anyway, ride out the bad press and stick to your guns. But doing this in the way they have... even if Zak had reasons to be let go its just cruel to do it twice. Its like them switching the Max streaming service back to HBO Max. You know there's people on the team being like "we literally JUST said its not this one thing, now we're doing this again." Its incompetence to an insane degree, and while it won't taint the Who for me and their legacy (not like I haven't looked past the Townshend kiddie porn stuff), it's certainly a bad look, is just plain disrespectful, and feels so avoidable. You've got like 20-50 shows left of your career, what a dumb wrench to throw in right at the end.

The first Chicago show isn’t close to sold out. There will be plenty of good seats available for both nights - below “Face” value.

Chicago 1 has moved more tickets than other venues, which are as some might say "wide open". ;-)

Tickets are not selling at The Prudental Center, Newark, NJ. Way too expensive.

Hum, so what's up exactly ? That Daltrey wanted the drummer of his solo shows onboard ?

Roger Daltrey apparently is an issue. Maybe that’s what’s up.

I took it as "we all know this isn't a firing cause you suck". What the implication of why he WAS fired, I'm not sure, but I took it more as support than a direct feeding into any other rumors. Just saying "we all know you're great."

That’s unfortunate bout Zak. Yes it’s time Who retired. I won’t be going to the Vancouver show.I’ve never seen them at all.

Go to the show. They still kick ass live. Still a better live band than 95 percent of other bands out there. They play tight and sound great

That's a wild statement. We all like The Who, and yes they have had their bright spots since Keith's passed. I still maintain their 2000 Live At The Royal Albert Hall live album is an incredible document of what that band still could muster up. It changed when Entwistle died, though again, they were still solid. I really enjoyed the Quad show I saw in 2011 or so. That's not to say "if you didn't see them already you missed the boat" but more to truly temper expectations. The band now is not the band from 10 or so years ago (especially without Zak). Its certainly not the band from 25 years ago that crushed it at the Concert For New York City. I enjoyed what I saw from the recent Teenage Cancer Trust shows on YouTube, but to say they are still better than 95% of other bands out there just feels patently false. As a band with a catalogue, yes, they are the Mt. Rushmore of rock. But as an active touring band, they're probably still a fun night out if you like their music, but no one needs to oversell it to a fantastical degree. Just seems silly IMO.

Upper bowl tickets are less than $100! Last chance to see them. I see that Candlebox is opening in Vancouver, never heard of them. Was hoping Bonamassa or Joe Perry Project would be opening or even Billy Idol or Tom Cochran!

Will see I’m not really a huge Who fan like Stones. Though they have some very good songs. A friend was saying just other day Roger must have a health issue if this is last tour… hmmm

I like Bonamassa he opened for Stones in Seattle last year for Stones I believe but could have city wrong. He’s awesome. Tom Cochrane I don’t think he would open but that’s my idea.

I actually do that for some shows. The last time (and only time) I've seen the Who was 1988 and that was brutal...an awful show.

Seeing Roger onstage shirtless in the 2000s (can't remember what show that was from, 9/11? Wasn't there another benefit concert for NYC after a hurricane?) was enough to convince me they had long jumped the shark.

For me, sad to see a once great band sort of whither away.

The Who were sublime at the Concert For New York in 2001.

The Who also appeared at 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief

Daltrey was fully clothed at both of those appearances.
