The only context you will get from that paper is one from the despised Smug Metropolitan/socialist types. A viewpoint that is very much out of touch with the population of The UK.
The Guardian is virtually unreadable, I find. Some of the music-related journalism is very good, but their general coverage on news and current affairs is so up it’s own arse, it’s unreal. It just panders to, like you state, the metropolitan elite and woke brigade.
Actually it's "Acton Grammar". I know that because I knew the headmaster there because I was dating his daughter at the time. :-)

Sounds like an exceptionally unique experience, and hope he is able to come back to States with this type of show some day - sounds much more interesting than just a standard solo show.
Better yet though, hope he AND Pete come back to the States some day - The Who were amongst the highlights of both Desert Trip weekends (better than the Stones),
and the last couple of shows I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl were phenomenal. Long live rock...keep on rolling Roger....hope to see you again some day.

I saw this and I thought WTF?! Puyallup is a city of 40000 south of Seattle. As was mentioned above, I could picture Herman's Hermits or maybe even current version of the Beach Boys playing these types of fairs. There are several IORR members living in the Pacific Northwest so maybe a chance to see him.
They get good stuff at the fair sometimes. I've seen Flaming Lips (don't think the fair was ready for that) & Jeff Beck there. Dylan played 1 year with Lucinda Williams opening, too. Back to the Lips, they were stunning. Did their set & came back out to do a big chunk of Dark Side of the Moon. When Jeff Beck played, I snuck into the grandstand in the afternoon during soundcheck. Jeff saw us & gave us a tsk tsk sign but he was smiling. This was when Jennifer Batten was in the band.

Didn't realize he was a county fair act as a solo.
The Puyallup fair is a pretty big step up from where he's playing the show prior to it though.

over the years, i’ve seen a number of great acts at the la and orange county fairs. most of the performances, however, have been lackluster. can’t blame artists for being less than enthused. at the fair, they get third billing behind corndogs and deep fried twinkies. kinda sounds about right for a daltrey solo show.

Hoping to see the Who again some day...the last two shows I saw them at Hollywood Bowl in '19 along with the Desert Trip shows in '16 were all phenomenal.

Roger's cancelled his Live And Kicking Tour:
''When I booked these shows several months ago I was confident that things would be back to normal by August, but due to the uncertainty of the current travel situation and the challenges for a UK act to be able to perform in the USA I have reluctantly decided to cancel the shows. I hope to re-book them in the near future, and to those of you who have bought tickets, please accept my sincere apologies.

I have some friends who were on the fence for the Santa Barbara Bowl show, but looks like that dilemma has been solved.
Maybe now we can hope for The Who to return in 2022 when the coast is relatively more clear than it is now which is filled with uncertainty.

Singer Roger Daltrey CBE, 77, is a founding member of the Who, who met at Acton County Grammar School and have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. He lives in Sussex with his second wife, Heather, the mother of three of his eight children, and still regularly tours – in part to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
We always had music in the house. It felt like every house had a piano and someone who could knock out a song. People would sing everywhere: inside pubs and outside, and on building sites. We have lost that now. I miss it.
Life wasn’t terrible after the Second World War. We had hardship, but it was good for us. We didn’t eat too much, so we weren’t obese. And everything we wanted we had to create. It wasn’t a throwaway society; you had to make things for yourself.
After the age of 50 you don’t need things like Ferraris. If I was to splurge now, I’d take some friends and family on a tour of Italy.
I believe in being strict with kids. In our house, everyone took turns at washing up and no one could duck it. There were tantrums, but you had to teach ’em. We don’t live in a world where some mythical creature will wipe your bum.
One of the toughest things to try to do is give advice to addicts. Tough love is the only thing that works, but that’s often tougher on you.
I often hit out at people because I came from a rough neighbourhood. And that’s what boys did. You fought. I only learnt to control my temper when the band threw me out – so I had to.
In the early days there were lots of parties, booze and relationships. We had no money, so we were sharing rooms and it was chaos. When we got arrested [in 1973 in Montreal, for wrecking a room], I’d been ordered to go to bed by the doctor, so I didn’t do the smashing up. Some of those rooms did need a bit of redecorating.
Young people should stop listening to such loud music. They don’t need to. If your ears are ringing, you’ll pay. Pete [Townshend] and I both have to wear hearing aids and it’s no fun taking them out; without them, life’s a mumble.
I wouldn’t have been a good father when I was on the road. There’s no point in wishing that I could have. I couldn’t. When three daughters arrived on my doorstep [unexpectedly in the Nineties, the products of relationships with women in the Sixties], I accepted them and I love them very much. I am very lucky.
I would have preferred some reforms to Europe, rather than leaving. Although I was never a huge fan. I could see what they were creating and that was a federal state without asking us.
Teenagers in hospital have totally different needs – psychologically and physically – from small children and adults. The drug companies don’t care about their needs though, because they make far more money from older people with cancer.
There is far too much overanalysis going on. The whole world is becoming neurotic. There are real things to worry about.
I don’t actually like my voice. But I know when I am getting the feeling right. I love voices like Joan Armatrading, Smokey Robinson, Howlin’ Wolf, Robert Plant, Paul Weller. And Van Morrison – his voice is the same as it always was.
I roll with things. What’s the point of worrying? An Austrian physio I had in the Eighties would say, “What are you holding on to pain for? When you let go, it will be all right.” That’s how I approach everything now.
There’s nothing wrong with being the best plumber in Sussex. I didn’t finish school, and it didn’t matter, because I wasn’t academic.
I appreciate people protesting about climate change, but a pink boat in the middle of Oxford Circus isn’t going to solve anything. It seems that there are people creating new markets to make money, but nothing is being done to solve the CO2 problems.
Playing with a rock band is like sitting on a stool and trying to maintain balance after four drinks. Whereas playing with an orchestra is like being on a big old comfy sofa that you relax into. It is not easier. Just a different feel.

Here, you can hear how good you still are.

Would probably go to a local gig if it was smaller venues like Pryzm in Kingston where he did his last gig with Pete.
I know it's theatres and places that are not as big as arenas, but have had the good luck to see Pete and Roger at Pryzm.

After looking at The Who website, I can see that Roger will be replying to questions from fans, and probably a lot of other interaction with the audience.
I might even try for the London Palladium gig, as nearest venue to me, and a great place for any type of performance.

So the house I lived in for 26 years in Richmond is now sold. It’s been a wrench. Moving house is never any fun, but with it went the home studio (which I helped build for Ronnie Wood when he lived in the house before me in 1973) where I have produced a lot of my songs and quite a bit of commercial music. The console is a Neve BCM10 from 1970. I mixed LIVE AT LEEDS on it. I recorded the piano for LOVE REIGN O’ER ME on it. I did all the synthesiser backing tracks for QUADROPHENIA, the music for Ken Russell TOMMY movie, and BABA O’RILEY, WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN on it. This console has so much Mojo for me. I truly love it. I’ve rarely managed to get a bad sound out of it. It now lives in my new studio in the countryside, and I use it with an 8 track tape machine to make demos that I hope will be as cool as that list of songs and soundtracks. #thewho #who’snext #quadrophenia #tommythemovie #neveconsole #babaoriley #wontgetfooledagain #homestudio

I wonder who will be the next owner of The Wick?
I can remember this lovely house from way back in the 60's when the actor John Mills and his family lived there.
As a youngster living in nearby Kingston, my school days were halfway in between the two towns, and the 65 Bus was the easiest way there and back.
I can remember a mate of mine telling me of the time he was doing some building work in Ronnie's place, or Pete's place at the time in the 70's - 80's , and he answered the door bell and it was Mick, so he obviously let him in.
Only time I've encountered with Mick was I regular cycled the perimeter park on a Sunday morning back then and giving him a wave while he was out jogging.
Funny how little things like that stick in your mind.

Like it Rocky.
When you go past on the bus to Richmond, and sitting on the top deck you can even see if anyones out in the garden area, which overlooks The River Thames.
That old Rock,'n Roller Tommy Steel lived at Ham, on the same bus route, and seen him a few times on my travels in the area.
Never had a camera handy at the time to take some pics.
Never had a camera anytime really when up close to someone I really admire, apart from Chuck Leavell and his missus in Oslo back in 2014.
Lovely people at a really great time in Oslo.
When you go past on the bus to Richmond, and sitting on the top deck you can even see if anyones out in the garden area, which overlooks The River Thames.
That old Rock,'n Roller Tommy Steel lived at Ham, on the same bus route, and seen him a few times on my travels in the area.

Roger Daltrey talks about the Stones in an interview with Greg Kot for The Coda Collection (via Grateful Web):
The Coda Collection: Did you hear what Paul McCartney said about the Stones the other day?
Roger: I know what he means, but the Stones have written some great songs, but they are in the blues. They are in that format. It's like comparing cheese and apples. They're both very tasty, but the cheese does one thing and the apple does another. I’ve always thought that you cannot take away the fact that Mick Jagger is still the number one rock and roll show. The only other people I'd put up against him would be perhaps James Brown, maybe Jerry Lee in his day, or Little Richard, but Mick Jagger, you've got to take your hat off to. He's the number one rock and roll performer. But as a band, if you were outside a pub and you heard that music coming out of a pub some nights, you'd think, "Well, that's a mediocre pub band." No disrespect. You're looking at me very patchy. But that music can. It's part of its charm. Like I say. You have to see the Stones. I love them. I just think they're great entertainment.

Seemingly Roger admires Mick a lot as a showman but doesn't appreciate him or the Stones very much as a musical unit.
It starts to look that having a strong foundation on blues is something these English old-school pop stars like Macca or Roger do not respect very much. Let's wait a little while, these people will tell us what a bore Charlie was as a drummer. No an innovitive force like Ringo or Moon. Just a jazz-clone trying to keep up the old and boring thing called swing.
Why is that these old legendary British rock stars are all turning to sound like old, bitter, jealous, stupid farts? Macca, Roger, Van, Eric... Is it just the age?
