Now there's a title for a thread that would keep on giving - Satan's Jukebox. To listen to the selections properly, it must be one of those mini-jukeboxes hovering over the table top in a diner somewhere, y'know, one of those places where the coffee resembles motor oil, the burgers are suspect and the fries need a boat of brown gravy to dip them into.

It reached #5 in the U.K.; a higher chart-playing than I Can See For Miles.

can't remember if it was this site but I started a thread before. the theory being it is the music Satan would torture you with in hell. for instance: "you light up my life" by Debby Boone. you get the picture....

Absolutely brilliant! It looked like one of my high school dances. The song Ooh Poo Pah Doo was played at so many of the high school and community dances back in the day, usually by the Chicano bands in East L.A. The early Who nailed it. Thanks for posting this rare footage.

This is great - looks so fresh like it could have been filmed yesterday.

Not exactly 'rare' though - it's been on YouTube for 6 years.

This colourised version is certainly cool though:

Great stuff! smileys with beer

Not seen that early stuff of The Who (The High Numbers),way back then, but must admit I haven't been looking.

Funny to think that I've now seen The Who play the really early days on video, and also the very last live gigs (so far), on February 12th and 14th 2020.

Here's a video taken from someone right behind me in my home town of Kingston on the last night of the acoustic gigs.

Great night. thumbs up

What a find! Well done. I too was at one of those small gigs at Pryzm Nightclub in Crawdaddy's hometown of Kingston on Thames. My most recent gig to date sad smiley

The father of a work colleague of mine grew up in Stratford and used to see the Who playing pubs and hotels in their pre fame days so I'll ping this on to him.

Seems like from another age but I’ll (hopefully) be going to watch the same band, or half of them, at Birmingham UK next year!

Tremendous!

Interesting to see Keith Moon already with his very distinctive style.

Did anyone else spot Pete's "windmill" at about 2'49"? I'm certain I read somewhere that he copied it from Keith Richards when he saw Keith doing it as a warmup at a gig where The Who played support for The Stones. Can anyone date that?

Well that certainly some remarkable video and audio to have been captured back then. Remarkably clean for such a little venue, even if they were taking it off the board. Probably some post-production work done on it.

Thanks for posting that, even though it has been on youtube for awhile, its amazing the gems you can dig up there sometimes.

OT- The Who Announce Vintage Concerts Series On YouTube
Date: August 6, 2020 22:45

The Who may have been forced to delay their 2020 tour plans due to the pandemic, but they’re trying to make it up to fans by launching Join Together @ Home on YouTube this weekend. It’s a six-week series that will showcase “live and rarely seen footage, mini videos and special screen footage, culminating with a performance from a previously unreleased show,” according to a press release.

The series kicks off on Saturday August 8th at 1:00 pm EST with five songs from the Who’s 1982 show at Shea Stadium, a legendary gig from their “farewell” tour that featured the Clash as their opening act. It will begin with a “red carpet premiere clip from Roger Daltrey.” The videos will be free of charge, but viewers will be encouraged to donate to the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.

Hopefully we'll get some stuff with Keith Moon at his prime IMO the best drummer there ever was.

This sounds cool - although a bit of a strange show to kick off with.

Looking forward to see what else will be coming up.

Their supporting wasn't bad either.

Tal Wilkenfeld & Band.

It sure would be nice if the Stones broke into the vaults and gave us something that is not already officially released and something that is not an old pay per view or something heavily bootlegged.

We all know they have a ton of stuff they could let us have maybe Mick will get the point that they are way behind other bands in this area.

Even Pink Floyd one of the most reclusive rock bands gave us better deluxe editions.

It would be nice if Van Halen finally opened their vaults and gave us something! There's got to be concert footage from 78-84 apart from what's available on Youtube. I think all VH fans would like full concert footage of Oakland 81.

They opened for The Doors. Great night.

Interesting, the whole Shea was released by Eagle Rock a few years ago, it’s not like they couldn’t just show the whole thing...).

I hope the unreleased gig is from the orchestral tour last year. Those shows were brilliant.

(I also doubt they have any Moon-era video in the vault that we haven’t already seen... given they’ve released things like the London ‘69 show with bits of songs missing... if there were whole 70s shows still out there, we’d have them by now)
