Good review.
As it happened it seems they also played Love, Reign o’er Me after 5:15. And, quite expected for a farewell tour, they repeated the Entwisle/Moon gesture from the last Quadrophenia tour:
"They went with option two, launching into 5:15, which included a video clip of a staggeringly good bass solo from the late, great John Entwistle. A similar tribute was then paid to Keith Moon, with a hilarious video of his Bell Boy monologue."
That really work great live as many of the crowd seem to keep their emotional touch with the late moon the loon (who, have stayed young forever) and the late Ox (being the eternal old geezer).

Maybe PT would be smashing his guitar as a gesture to the past? though I would prefer he does that only at the end of the Liverpool gig... so I could be sure he wont hurt his back and cancel a gig I intend attending...
And after Nov. 30th we will be able to know whom are those "special friends" (Gallaghar brothers?).
If that's one of the places they're playing in NYC metro area, I'm going. Great history indeed!

He won't be smashing any guitars. The last one he broke (Japan, 2004) was auctioned off for a charity along with a certificate of authenticity, signed by Pete, attesting that this was going to be absolutely the last guitar he would ever break. A contract is a contract.

Here's a history of Pete's guitar smashings. It's something he mainly did in 1967 and 1968. He's rarely done it since Keith Moon died.

The "guitar smashing ceremony" (as seen in the movie "The Kids are allright" as part of the "My Generation" clip) was mostly happening during the 1966-68 period.
It involved apart from the guitar breaking, also the Moon kicking his drums and Daltry damaging some of the mics and amps. We all saw that in Woodstock PT did sort of a guitar banging thing, and I recall seeing pictures of his Gibson smashed in the Isle of Wight festival of 1969 (as opposed to 1970).
As this was pretty much a PR trick in the first place (and for “low income” gigs they used old broken guitars for the smashing, brought to the stage just before the last song) it served its purpose and by the late 60’s became rarer and rarer. I recall a report of a guitar smashed in the UK during on e of the “not in London) gigs of 2000 or 2001, when I travelled to see them more then once.
Anyway – I guess that it wont happen now days as PT doesn’t seem to be in a mood for this trick and in all gigs I saw him since 2000 he was always sarcastic in nearly every word he said (though in one of the RAH gigs in 2002 he was in good spirit and started stepping in one of the amps at the front of the stage every few minutes. At some point the amp fell off the stage with PT on it, falling into the first 2 lines at the front, luckily not really hurting any one. He was cool enough to turn around, while lying of some 4 people and letting one of the ladies play a few tunes before climbing back to the stage).
For my Liverpool gig my tickets were not shipped (through UPS) until a week ago. I called TM.CO.UK and explained that I would be leaving for a trip, ending at the UK, by Dec. 1st so any delivery date that is after that would be not good. They checked, called me back and said that as they do not think tickets would be shipped by then (!!!) they agree to have my tickets at "will call".
On the other hand they refunded me for the 18 pounds UPS fee even without me asking (forgot to check about it).
Just got home and the tickets were waiting for me.
Got my tix for Dec 18th o2. Row A! Cannot wait.

Europe Summer 2015. Paris shows announced. Few broken strings but Abu Dhabi was a good show. Set lists will now change. Few more rare songs. Mick was right about Abu Dhabi. Tour is 18 months.

No surprises, and I like it that way.

I don't think so this time, finally.
I thought the same thing about the Rolling Stones when they were turning 50. The thing the made me want to go again was that they brought back Mick Taylor.

In answer to my own question, they are indeed playing at the very same Forest Hills Tennis Stadium they played at in 1971. The Beatles played there in '64. The Stones played there in '66.

Ugh. Just watched the video and they are much better than expected. Roger looks old, the band lacks the sheer power they once had. Roger's voice sounds much better than it did pre-surgery, but will never have what he had 35 years ago. But even after all that I now want to go catch them on this tour.
They are not the Who of grit and power anymore, but maybe still worth seeing.

Not sure they can sell out two shows in Paris (the smaller Zenith this time, not Bercy) so close after the 2013 Quadrophonia tour. The pricing is pretty ridiculous too with the GC seats behind GA at €200 and GA at €90, well I suppose it's nice for GA people.
