As far as I know, they had some concerts planned for South America in 2008, but they had to cancel them all. Pete gave an interview for a brazilian magazine some months ago saying he's definitely hoping to come here next year.

In answer to my own question, they are indeed playing at the very same Forest Hills Tennis Stadium they played at in 1971. The Beatles played there in '64. The Stones played there in '66.

Tickets for Detroit go on sale this Friday, exactly ONE YEAR to the day before the show is scheduled to take place. There's no way I'm giving them my money 365 days before they give me my concert. If I go at all, I'll buy my tickets at the door. They'll still be available ....

That makes me feel a little better. I was pissed that I'm having to buy Austin tickets 6 months in advance. Hell, I could be dead in 6 months! Then what!?!

The Who played a private party tonight for the same guy the stones played for in Vegas /2002, at his annual company Gala in Arizona.

It seems putting tickets on sale months before the actual show is becoming more common these days. A good way for the band to make alot of extra money, having all that ticket money up to a year in advance to sit and earn interest for them.

In Boston its almost 13 months from the onsale date to the concert date. I have never seen a concert in my life with that kind of lead time.

I remember when one to two months was the norm. Anything over 6 months is ridiculous, and can't help but cause the concert, when it finally arrives, to be anti-climatic in the extreme.

Hey Tatters, exactly! I have tix for the Vancouver show September 29. I'll probably forget I even have them until a couple weeks before the concert.

I bought U2 tickets in November 2009 and didn't get to use them until June 2011. Bono's "bad back" necessitated a 12-month postponement. (Actually, having a stage so large that it could only be used outdoors, and only being able to play outdoors in Michigan in the summertime is what really necessitated the 12-month postponement. I'm sure his back felt much better long before then.)

So, let me see if I understand these posts above regarding early ticket availability. You don't mind knowing about the concert dates a year in advance--I didn't see any complaints about that. It's just that you don't want to know about ticket availability until right before the show, is that right?

Are those who complain about getting tickets early afraid they will change their mind about going once the concert day arrives? It's a good thing the band doesn't feel that way.

Maybe it's done this way to see how they sell and to figure out ahead of time whether they may want to add extra dates in a particular city.

No, it's done this way so they can have your money earning interest in their bank account at the earliest possible date. Except maybe in New York, these shows are not going to sell out and they aren't going to be adding any extra dates. The Who just aren't that big a deal anymore and haven't been for a long time. Even if they were, it doesn't take a year to find out if there's enough interest to add extra shows. They would know that on the day the tickets went on sale.

I just miss the spontaneity of the old days. I can remember driving past a club on a Saturday morning, seeing on the marquee that Steppenwolf was playing there that night, going home, calling my friends and saying, "Hey, you wanna go see Steppenwolf tonight?", going back to the club that afternoon, buying the tickets, and then, a few hours later, standing in line to see a great show I didn't even know about until that morning. It was just more fun that way. More exciting.

Besides, name one other product you pay for in full, and then don't receive your merchandise until a year later. I can't think of one. Funeral arrangements, maybe?

The sort of spontaneity you speak of is the stuff of college days and is just a memory by the time you're 35 to 40 and up, weekends included, especially when you and your friends all have your plates full with married and family life.

The merchandise is the T-shirts and so on, the concert itself is the experience--and you have to wait a year for that anyway.

Good points made by both Tatters and Stonehearted about ticket sales. As far as putting them on sale early to see if they may add additional dates, they already have multiple shows booked around New York as well as 2 shows in Philly, Chicago, Toronto and LA. I doubt any of the cities listed that they're only playing a single show in will sell out quick enough to add a second show.
In looking at the schedule, I can see them actually adding a couple extra shows in Western Canada after playing Vancouver and Calgary since there is a nine day break. Perhaps Edmonton and even Winnipeg?
As far as The Who having this ticket money in their accounts to make some extra money and not raise ticket prices, I don't think Townshend or Daltrey are hurting financially.

Further to my post I just did, I see now that they are playing Edmonton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg after the Calgary show! I'm sure they'll add a third leg to the tour to hit alot of US cities not booked originally as well as other Eastern Canadian cities like Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and Halifax!

I'll probably end up going by hook or by crook. For me is because of the chance to see Pete one more time. I have seen the Who do some phenomenal shows & don't really have any expectation that are going to come close to some of those. Roger's voice is still ok but its not what it was. Not going to ante' up that far in advance though. It's just too long. Is almost like the promoters are hedging their bets on some of the older acts. If there is an issue, they still make money off the interest. Mellencamp has done the same thing in Seattle. Almost a year in advance. A lot of the teeny bopper stuff like One Direction do that too. In their case, who knows if they will still be popular a year from now.

Ticket prices in Detroit, where tickets were still available at the door when they played here two years ago, are $802.00, $502.00, $352.00, $302.00, $202.00, $153.95, $102.90, $72.25, and $51.85. This, for a band that's basically spent two-thirds of its career, 32 of the 50 years they've been in existence, saying good-bye.

With all due respect for the legacy of that band, and for Pete T. & Roger D. personally: everything above 70$ is an hysterical laugh ànd a crying disgrace at the same time.

Rock veteran Pete Townshend has sensationally confessed he "hates" his band The Who and cannot stand performing live.

The guitarist and his bandmate Roger Daltrey are heading out on the road for a massive, year-long farewell tour from next month to say goodbye to their fans after 50 years.

However, Townshend is already regretting the decision before the band has even played a note of music - because he hates the job.

Asked by a journalist from British magazine Event why he agreed to a farewell tour, Townshend replies, "I'm sort of asking myself the same question. It seemed like a good idea about six months ago but I hate performing and The Who and touring. But I'm innately good at it, I don't find it hard."
