In your opinion? How do you know they won't use recordings Malcolm did?

If I should guess, they'll use both: Old Malcolm recordings AND new recordings from Stevie.

Rock Or Bust sounded great with Stevie playing through Malcolm's rig.

I think they can do a combination of using Malcolm's parts if they're intact enough and recorded well enough, or have Stevie replicate them in studio if needed.

AC/DC don't do extensive overdubs or guitar layering, so it's probably going to be one or the other on a song-by-song basis.

Supposedly this new album has recordings of Malcolm playing guitar.

Why is that so difficult to understand that Angus is making an LP around that?

Sure but how is he going to pull this off? Thru the magic of Pro-tools and computerized recording you can basically do anything but how is he gonna duplicate the organic feel of the other AC/DC albums.

It's easy. They have lots of outtakes (also of good songs).

There might be some drum takes or something that need touching up. But Malcom's takes could still be awesome.

The feel might be there already. The tempo is there + some of the instruments. Probably a good foundation to build good songs on. They have probably worked like this earlier, too.

It's easy. They have lots of outtakes (also of good songs).

Fully formed outtakes or basic riffs/50seconds demos recorded on a portable
digital recorder.

If they got more of the latter than of the former they'll have to take Mal's guitar off the demos, record some rythmn tracks with Phil (and Cliff?), sample and inject Mal's riffs into the new rythmn tracks...

It would definitely work with a robotic-sounding band like Depeche Mode, but AC/DC...?

Or they'll listen to the hundred of song ideas Mal left behind, choose the best and develop them into full songs thru rehearsals with Stevie Phil and Angus.

Then they'll ask Axl to write and record some new lyrics... >grinning smiley<

Probably full songs that didn't make it on several albums.

Angus has been doing this a LONG time...he knows how Malcolm always wanted AC/DC to sound, and he's not going to let him down if he's really going this route. I trust him and Mike Fraser to get it right.

It would be awesome to get Mutt Lange one more time to produce. Get that Highway to Hell/ Back In Black sound!

That would be cool but I doubt it would happen. Angus and Malcolm got tired of Mutt's polished, glitzy production and meticulous recording style. That's why they stripped it back to basics with Flick of the Switch.

Plus Mutt is a notorious recluse and I don't think he even produces much anymore.

A Stiff Upper Lip sound will be perfect.
Mike Fraser is very good and knows the job.
Hope Brendan O'Brien is out.

Yes, ROB sound is quite better, more rusty.

Brendan O'Brien and Mike Fraser worked on both albums though.

I think Rock or Bust has a slightly grittier sound, but they're pretty similar. I think the bigger problem with Black Ice is the bloated run-time. Chop off 2-3 fillers and you have a tighter album.

Unfortunately, Angus and Mal's older brother, George, produced SUL, who passed last year (shortly before Mal).

FOTS was indeed back to basics, with that LTBR style sound. Unfortunately the album wasn't too radio friendly and it didn't sell well. The opening night of the tour was in Vancouver at the Coliseum and it wasn't even sold out. First time I got to see the band and I loved the show. Even liked Fastway, the opening act, who I saw the year before opening for Maiden.

Yeah, FOTS felt like AC/DC completely turning their backs on megastardom. I'm sure when they saw how Mutt steered Def Leppard, they were grateful they listened to their instincts.

Ah, Fastway...Fast Eddie Clarke's band!

There's probably a damn good reason why Angus got Phil involved if it revolves around recordings made with Malcolm.
