Really sad news.

When I told a friend, he said he thinks he has hearing damage from the Ford Field show last fall. Brutally loud.

Wear your earplugs, kids.
Honestly, I saw them at Foxboro Stadium last August without ear protection, and didn't think they were THAT loud. Whether that means my ears are already screwed or not, I don't know. I know outdoor stadium shows aren't as loud, but I was surprised how reasonable the volume was.
I saw them indoors on the Black Ice tour and outdoors. Indoors at Madison Square Garden, it was probably the loudest concert I've ever been to. Maybe an exaggeration, but I remember thinking in the moment "holy crap, that is quite a wall of sound being thrown at me." You couldn't escape it. Outdoors at Giants Stadium, it was much more... I don't wanna say tolerable cause its not like MSG was bad. But yeah, it was just a totally different thing. Still loud, but not to deafening volumes. Whether thats just cause it was outdoors or I was further away or I'm sure my ears have gotten worse over the years.
It was the first time I'd seen them since 2001, but I was 23 then and I know I didn't wear ear plugs.

Still, I was surprised that they weren't louder. But as you said, outdoor stadiums allow the sound to dissipate more.

When I was at the front of stage in Madrid last year I actually moved back a bit because of the super high volume.

How about the guy from Krokus? I'm serious!

Angus Young is the main person in AC/DC. But it is for me very hard to imagine to see AC/DC without Brian Johnson on vocals. I saw them last year for the 3rd and they were for me the ultimate best concert in 2015.

What about getting the singer from Airbourne? ;-)

i could have gone to see slayer

Please pass. I just DLed an excellent recording of a 2016 show (Port Chester NY) and frankly it's depressing : slow, deprived of energy, it's really Slayer-lite, metal-by-the-numbers.
Araya sings great these days but the music... confused smiley and Bostaph is deprived of any groove which doesn't help.

He should have replaced Bon.

Araya is singing better than he has in decades since he was forced to stop headbanging.

Unfortunately Bostaph has lost a lot of his power and is a piss-poor replacement for Lombardo this time around.

They can have Cinderella's singer or Airbourne's one.
So, Tom Keifer or Joel O'Keeffe.

But yes, is very hard to imagine to see AC/DC without Brian Johnson on vocals.
He is great. My favourite album of AC/DC with him is this:

AC/DC is nearly as iconic as the Stones are at this point...now imagine the Stones replacing Mick or Keith for even just one show due to a cold or a flu.

It'd be unthinkable.

Same with AC/DC...it's not about who can SOUND like Brian. At this point, it's about being in the presence of their legend. Without that, you might as well go see a cover band.

They should quit. Now.
I was afraid when Malcolm had to quit, but Stevie Young does a great job.
Chris Slade isn't the best replacement for Phil Rudd, but he does alright.
But without Brian, Malcolm & Phil it becomes a tribute band.

When Brian replaced Bon, it was a new start. This isn't a new start.

I have a ticket for the Werchter gig, but I probably won't be going now.
I have great memories of the 3 gigs I saw. Well, the sound was horrible in Wembley last year... but still... great night.

By the way, my guess for his replacement is Dee Snider.

guest vocalist? just throw in the towel!

I have a suspicion that the European dates will soon be cancelled. I think the talk of a guest singer is fulfill the commitment for the current US tour and avoid any penalties or insurance payouts.

Sadly it seems it might be over for them now.

Regarding the loudness of AC/DC.....

In stadiums they are loud....
In arenas they are really, really loud!

It will be hard to get somebody with the same voice as Brian.
Without that that special voice, it will not be the same... completely weird.

thumbs upthumbs upthumbs up

Why not wait a little while...

Brian can decide to rather be deaf after playing 10 more shows.
Why not? He blames himself for racing without earprotection.

By the way: Tickets were still on sale this morning European Time at www.acdc.com.

With Brian gone, and Angus the only original member left, they will turn into a cover band - "Angus and friends play the songs of AC/DC".

For Those About To Rock (we'll have to reschedule)!

I would like to see Angus do something else sans the schoolboy outfit. He is an awesome guitar player & it would be cool to see him come out dressed normal & just play. The tapes I've heard without Malcom have been ok but he was the engine for the band, live & in song writing. I can see them wanting to fulfill their obligations & admire that but its time to call it a day. G'day at that!

i think they will do the european tour and they will reschedule u.s. dates.
too many tickets have been sold, too many complications with insurance etc etc
they will find a new singer to finish the job somehow, and then it will be over. i hope angus will do something different in the future, he is still a strenght of the nature
