It's a great tune.

Great in the JJF/Gimme Shelter/etc realm?

No. Obviously.

"It is what it is".

They were just doing whatever, turning a soundcheck into a song. No big. It's just a song.

I’ll have to listen to Sex Drive on Spotify, later. Although I owned Flashpoint at one time, I’m not sure I ever quite managed a full listen of this B-Side.

in my opinon this song is best experienced with the video almost as if it was created with a video like this in mind (and goddamn charlie is great in this)

also to me this is there best video of the 90's and the funkiest song of that decade too

Actually, it was an A-side – released in different forms, with different B-sides (Undercover Of The Night live, Sex Drive dirty hands remix etc).

Since I bought Flashpoint 100 years ago this tune has grown on me and now it's easily in my Top 20 songs released after 1981. Those funky Jimmy Nolen-inspired riffs came in abundances around that 88-91 stint, it was a fresh part of the '89 comeback IMHO.

I really like this song...Mick is great.

It's the last track on the album.

It is, yes. I'll give it a whirl. I bought Flashpoint at a time when I, quite simply, hoovered-up everything Stones. I was really enjoying my recently-purchased VHS copy of 'At The Max', and recollect being just a little disappointed with the CD.

I've always really liked the track - slinky, groovy, and some nice vocal melodies in there. Highwire I loved at the time, still do.

Flashpoint was my very first Stones album purchase, way back in April/May 1993. The beginning! Followed by Steel Wheels & Sticky Fingers; and super fandom shortly thereafter. 32 years, and am still as fascinated with them as I was back then.

One of the most tuneless tracks the Stones ever came up with...like that thing on VL, "Suck on the Jugular". "Hot Stuff" at least has a cool rythm guitar/riff and a great (non Stones) guitar solo.

Hot stuff: phenomenal

Dance part 1: excellent

Sex drive: very very good

Suck on the jugular: well - ok...

Rain fall down: rubbish

Rarely spin this one. It's... fine? But if I had to pick the best post-Tattoo song, it might well be "Highwire."

It's just a song. It's funky. It's fun. It's different. It's not serious "here we are now off the tour with something we came up with during sound check - flinging something" kind of tune.

Rolling Stones 1991 'by the way'.

No big deal.

Great little wampy riff, great horns, great beat. Ohhhhh... suggestive lyrics - not really. Mick just being Mick.

Simple.

Nothing more.

It's a nothing song.

If it was on DIRTY WORK... ha ha ha ha.

I don’t really care for any of them, though.

Listened to this for the first time in years. It’s dreadful. If I woke up to this hungover I would smash with a hammer whatever speaker it was coming from rather than endure more agony searching for the OFF button.

If it was on DIRTY WORK... ha ha ha ha.

Hey Max, only a self-absorbed A-hole laughs loudly at his own obscure (and unfunny) jokes.

You’re right about this being a nothing song though, I think. Except you're also saying it's fun and different and great and not suggestive, just Mick being Mick.

Just another worthless, nothing post from the IORR flake.

Agreed (if we switch Jugular and Rain Fall Down) smiling smiley

Re: Track Talk: Sex Drive

The problem with this excellent song is that, like many from this band, it goes against the conventions of the fast-food music industry. Only sustained and repeated listening reveals how good it really is. And that goes against the trend of instant impact and immediate success on the first listen.
I find the video mediocre.

Swayed1967, so enthralled that you are incapable of understanding the "ha ha ha". Perhaps you should read up on what sarcasm means.

Do you constantly eat Unhappy Flakes or are you a solid curmudgeon? Both apply so no response necessary.

Why do you even bother, go yell at clouds.
