Thanks big4, great to see the guys understand Mick comes first at this time and that he also needs, and will get from them, total support.

My first thought after the tour was postponed was that in all likelihood it would end up being too hard and be outright cancelled.

Reading this though it seems the band actually also understand how WE are also deeply saddened by the death of Micks partner, we're not just sad at the prospect of no shows, so they seem to feel OUR support of them. They in turn will support us, when they can.

Don't know I articulated that too well....

Perfectly well thumbs up
thumbs updid just fine! cool smiley

Mick is in LA, date of funeral not yet known. Here the news given by the news agency AFP today at 3.36 German time:

At short notice in response to Mick Jagger's personal tragedy we have arranged a fundraising night in Sydney to raise money for Beyond Blue (an Australian charity that raises awareness about depression and other mental illness) and for any Stones fans who are at a loose end on Tuesday night after the postponement of the Rolling Stones' Sydney concert. The band and sound engineer are not making a cent from this night, and every dollar raised will be donated to Beyond Blue. We hit the stage at 8.30pm with two big sets from different historical eras, kicking on until 11.30pm. If you haven't been to the Lazybones Lounge, you are in for a treat - this is a fantastic old school intimate venue with fabulous retro decor! ENTRY VIA GOLD COIN AT THE DOOR

OK, but nothing new unlike what the title implies if you read on " "A statement from Frontier Touring said "every effort" was being made to move the gigs to October and November." - you'd think the BBC website would be a bit more rigorous...

So the rescheduling news has just dried right up and the promoter has avoided a run on refunds? I bet most of us want to see dates, not refund details.

I can almost guarantee there would have been no run on refunds. I can understand totally how anxious you all are to see the band, but it's been only three or four days since the tragedy, and there's a LOT of work involved in rescheduling something on this scale. Patience.

It would make sense for everything to be on hold for a couple of weeks (or more) until Mick decides he wants to deal with the tour issues. With the current timeframe they've given, there's no rush anyway.

I sold 3 tickets on eBay and contacted each buyer to ask if I they wanted me to cancel the ticket and give them a refund. The only person who seemed interested in that option was a lady who might not be in Sydney in October. She just said she wants to wait and see what the new date is.

I really don't think many people want a refund unless they can't make the new date.

Also I think Fronteir have been amazing throughout at keeping us informed the best they can. It's a huge task cancelling shows that already had the stage under construction and then reschedule something of such a large scale where dates and venues have to match up perfectly.

Just a question on the cost of the reschedule, if big money to get here and half build stages etc is already spent, how do they get that back given that they have to spend a heap later in the year to do it all again? Which interested party wears the extra costs? Is it the band or promoter?

Some of the expenses will be covered by insurance. All large concert tours are underwritten by specialised insurance to cover the loses incurred in the event something (death, illness, terrorism, bad weather, etc.) causes a show or the whole tour to get postponed or cancelled. Some of the losses for the postponed tour in Australia will be picked up by the Rolling Stones organisation, and some by the local promoters (Frontier Touring). These expenses can get "written off" by the companies as a business loss for tax purposes. The Stones may decide to add more shows in Asia or Australia to help cover the additional costs of transporting the band, crew, stage and equipment overseas a second time.

Hey LQ. I was wondering if you were still going to go to NZ. Hope you have a fun time there despite the cancelled show. I hear the South Island is really beautiful so maybe you can take a few days down there. Enjoy your trip.

Re: Would Stones Rescheduling/Postponement be Biggest in Rock History

The biggest by far is Michael Jackson's 50 nights scheduled for the O2 Arena. Nothing else really comes close, in terms of impact. If you limit the discussion to rescheduling, U2 moved a lot of shows around two tours ago.

I suspect that the two Stones concerts re-scheduled in 1990 - being two Wembley's worth of people - adds up to more people than the audiences scheduled to attend the postponed gigs.

The 50 shows in London would have been only the beginning for Michael Jackson. Following those he planned to do an 80 city, 100+ show world tour in 2009/10 which would have likely been one of the highest-grossing tours of all time.

Would Stones Rescheduling/Postponement be Biggest in Rock History?

Absolutely not. I read an article about postponed tours on my way home, it might have been in Perth or Auckland, don't remember, but they mentioned The Who tour, when John Entwistle died one day before the tour start in Las vegas. Also, they mentined U2, with some serious rescheduling.

From Queenstown to Aukland, If you can drive a good chunk of it, it will be a trip of a lifetime.

That could at least be a strong possibility. In 2007, when people were coming from all over the world to the Zeppelin reunion show in London, and then Jimmy Page broke his little finger and the show was postponed for two or three weeks, a lot of people got refunds when they told the airlines the circumstances. I didn't--I just needed to reschedule, anyway, but I was too dumb to explain WHY I needed to reschedule so I had to pay the fee--they waived that for a lot of people, too.

Would The Stones rescheduling or postponement of this tour go down as the biggest in Rock history?

No Gutzon Borglum had ta take a month off from carving Mount Rushmore when he accidently dropped his chisel ....

By far the biggest cancellation in rock history would be when King Tut of Egypt was forced to scrap his planned "Mega-Pyramid" due to his premature death.

I'm still in Adelaide. Drove past Adelaide Oval twice today.
Like a lot of fans, feeling sad and a little depressed today.
Can only imagine how Mick and those in the stones family and LWrens family are feeling.

If I feel sad now, when one of the band passes I will be a total mess.
