But this one isn't really a reggae, merely a pop/rock song dressed in reggae-clothes. Listen to the beat smiling smiley

I love Toots, btw thumbs up

I feel Charlie is getting the reggae beat down pretty well on this one, better than he did on Cherry Oh Baby.

it's actually a straight ahead rock-n-roll beat. keith is playing an accent on the off beat, which might be why you think it sounds like reggae, but charlie is playing it rock-n-roll.

Judging by the lyrics, Mick thought they were recording a comedy record...

Stones my fav band of all time, but this is such an insignificance it barely registers......thankfully.
The diversity of opinion amazing, people putting it in their top 5 has gotta be a put on.

Always interesting to read old threads that have been dug up, and I see that I hadn't commented on this yet.
To save time and effort, I'll quote 24FPS:

Wow. I have such disdain for most of Emotional Rescue that I had to look up this song on YouTube. It hardly rang any memory bells. Probably only listened to it then because you couldn't just skip to the next cut on an LP from your remote on the couch. A B-side at best.

Definitely one of the weak links on the album, along with Indian Girl and the horrible title track.

Better than anything on DIRTY WORK.

Liking this tune, regardless of its quality in the canon, shows that one is a bonafide real true Stones fan.

"Fun" Stones at their best, you can understand why the fans who'd experienced the 68/72 years first hand were (and still are) completely appalled though ;-)

I experienced 1968 to 1972 first hand, and was never appalled by this song or the album Emotional Rescue, nor was anyone that I knew at the time.

In my opinion, the era of 1978 to 1981 was almost as great as the era of 1968 to 1972.

"Send It To Me" was one of the best songs from the era 1978 to 1981.

Definitely one of the weak links on the album, along with Indian Girl and the horrible title track.

The 'horrible' title track features a fantastic bass line, Mick singing like our savior Barry Gibb, a poor girl, a lot of sand and a horse. What more do you want? And while Mick is perhaps guilty of chasing that disco fad a little too feverishly, he at least chose a title that was refreshingly psychiatric and less abusive than songs like 19th Nervous Breakdown and Stupid Girl.

There is only one unspectacular track on ER – Where The Boys Go and even that one is partially redeemed by Mick’s delightful cockney accent and the mystery girls in their short skirts and shiny ruby lipstick who appear out of nowhere near the end of the song. I wish they sang on all Stones songs. Anybody got a number for them? I don’t think they’re listed in the credits.

Send It To Me starts quickly with what initially promises to be the most stunning example of ‘weaving’ ever recorded but by the end of that initial burst of Keith’s sound and Ronnie’s fury I’m always left a little disappointed. Worst cock-tease of an intro ever and yet you can somehow imagine Keith and Ronnie posing like porn stars when listening to the playback.

The intro aside, however, I agree that it’s a fun song with an excellent vocal performance from Mick.

This is a top twenty song for me, it's what the Stones are all about, that longing and tongue-in-cheek rock n roll. It ain't Dice or Brown Sugar or Rambler but it's still a great underestimated tune on a great underestimated album, albeit with only about 3 chords and a half....

Totally agree! And it features some of the finest guitar playing you'll find on a Stones record. Brilliant stuff thumbs up

It's not "please try to follow me" (no, it's "phone me")and "aeroplane"?

And, yes, it's probably Mick’s way of singing "bulgarian" smiling smiley

Love this song but WTF is a Bubarian? Someone from Buba?

I always assumed Mick was saying 'Bulgarian', in his own inimitable style.

Send her, oh, send her to me’

I never liked this song very much. From Day 1 I thought of it as a reggae-fied version of "Beast of Burden".
The intro is great. Lyrics are slightly funny.

It's always interesting to hear a song like "Send it" because by Stones standards it is a pretty obscure track, not all that great, from one of their weaker albums. But I will hear it for the first time in ages, and I'm pretty impressed how very good they are at their bottom. First of: no one, and really no one else does a song like this. Where reggae and rock and Slide guitar, and Jagger's absurd lyrics are so effortlessly fused together. And those snaky lead guitar lines, very bluesy, that Ron and Keith do in their sleep are so ..I can't think of the word. They're unique, is what they are.
I actually was listening to an outtake. Jagger had all the words, and many of the intricacies were all present: 'the Blueberry-an' and 'the social hostess'; but it goes on a lot longer.
