They may have had matching white robes for Steel Wheels, but the choice of robe seems now to suit individual tastes of each band member, with only Charlie keeping to the white robe, whereas Mick will not be photographed in anything but a woolly scarf--because he's so vain, he probably thinks that song was about him.

Right at the end of Video Rewind, Mick is putting on a white robe as he exits the concert venue trailed by a hapless Norman Gunston. So that's 1978.

It has to do with the extreme jump from stage light temps to whatever it is outside. Body can go into shock if there is an extreme jump.
