Rolling Stones Sax Player Bobby Keys To Play Stones Sideshows
by PAUL CASHMERE on JANUARY 22, 2014
Rolling Stones legendary long-time sax player Bobby Keys will tour Australia as a solo artist in March with his all-star band The Suffering Bastards as sideshows to The Stones dates.
Keys played on every Rolling Stones record from 1969-1974 and from 1980 onwards. That is his saxophone solo on The Stones classic ‘Brown Sugar’ and John Lennon’s ‘Whatever Gets You Thru The Night’
Bobby Keys is credited on albums by George Harrison ‘All Things Must Pass’, Ringo Starr ‘Ringo’, Keith Richards ‘Talk Is Cheap’, John Lennon ‘Walls and bridges’, Joe Cocker ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen’ and Eric Clapton ‘Eric Clapton’.
Bobby Keys will tour Australia with The Suffering Bastards, featuring Dan Baird (The Georgia Satellites) on Guitar and vocals; Chark Kinsolving (Spoonful) on Guitar, Michael Webb (John Fogerty, Poco) on Piano and Hammond Organ, Robert Kearns (Lynyrd Skynyrd) on Bass and Brad Pemberton (Ryan Adams and the Cardinals) on Drums.
Considering Keys will be in Australia with the Rolling Stones you never know who else might turn up.

2 Sydney shows! Also the above article you will notice is by Paul Cashmere, infamous around these parts for reporting that Charlie wasn't going to tour with The Stones after A Bigger Bang tour ended.
It got so out of hand that their management had to release a statement saying it wasn't true.
My easy prediction is these shows by alledged suffering bastards+Bobby Keys will be better than what the Stones+Keys put on the next day. This will escape the Ozzies due to the 50,000 people carrying on at The Stones venue, Crowd size giving that illusion....
Not a better show, but maybe a better fan experience. I saw him in Detroit in 2012 and for fifteen dollars my wife and I had room to dance right in front of the stage. He was literally four feet from me when he played CYHMK.
Live With Me The Letter The Wanderer Sweet Virginia Harlem Nocturne You Look Like I Could Use A Drink Brown Sugar

Anyone going to The Basement show? Me and a mate have tickets...if someone Stones related shows up that's a bonus, but from YouTube clips I've seen the SUffering Bastards should be great!
I'm off to the basement and will hopefully head to fox studios for the Monday night show. Small venue, I figure you can't go wrong. I saw an exile on Main Street show at the basement( they played every song in order from the album) and it was a cracker venue.
Just been web surfing on Bobby. He has a great excerpt chapter from his book about 72 at Nellcote villefranche . Website www.bobbykeys.net book
The Thornbury Theatre has the dance floor open for this show with the tables and seats behind it. It's a great venue but a little whole out of the Melbourne city centre (if that's where you are staying) - about 25 minutes on the train and a a little bit longer on the tram. I have never been to the Hi Fi Bar in Sydney, but the Melbourne Hi Fi is quite large, Thornbury Theatre is VERY intimate. Also Thornbury is on a Thursday which is a much bigger party night than a Monday!
I phoned the basement and they thought it was still on. I imagine his band would be in transit or already in Oz so good chance it will continue. I'm really looking forward to something to brighten up the mood so fingers crossed.
Got this from The Gov in Adelaide about an hour ago:
With the sudden and very sad cancellation of The Rolling Stones tour of Australia, we have only just got confirmation today that American saxophonist Bobby Keys, who has toured with The Stones’ for the last 40 or so years, and his band The Suffering Bastards will still play The Gov on Friday March 21 as planned.
