Okay, no new 'favourite posts' seem to pop up anymore, so I'll give the final results here:

1. Rocks Off (43 mentions)
2. Let It Loose (31 mentions)
3. Tumbling Dice (30 mentions)
4. Loving Cup (26 mentions)
5. Torn and Frayed (24 mentions)

6. Sweet Virginia (22 mentions)
7. All Down The Line (20 mentions)
8. Happy (19 mentions)
9. Shine A Light (17 mentions)
10. Ventilator Blues (13 mentions)
11. Soul Survivor (11 mentions)
12. Casino Boogie (10 mentions)
13. Sweet Black Angel (9 mentions)
14. Stop Breaking Down (6 mentions)
15 - 18: Rip This Joint; Shake Your Hips; Turd On The Run; Just Wanna See His Face (all 5 mentions).

Well, this indicates that 'Exile on Main Street' could've been an acceptable release as a single album (not a double).

Imo Exile is an extended single album.

Well, if we would ask what, say, four tracks are one's favourite tunes in (almost) any other Stones (single) album, we would make the same conclusion that that album could've been an accaptable release as an EP...

I think those votes actually indicate that EXILE being a double is pretty much justified.

Hi Kleermaker. I've always enjoyed your posts and play your youtube best-of-the-73-tour playlist often. Sorry to arrive late but my top five would be:

Casino Boogie
Ventilator Blues
I Just Wanna See His Face
Let It Loose
Soul Survivor

^^ The middle three in particular *make* Exile for me. 2nd fave Stones album ever, quite a masterwork.

Very hard to pick five as the work so importantly together. Some much more than others, but it is such a cohesive statement.
So I will try:

Torn and Frayed
Let it Loose
Shine a Light
Casino Boogie
Rocks Off

It really is hard to narrow it down on this album though . . . Rocks Off (the top IORR fan favorite apparently) and Shake Your Hips are WAY up there for me as well, to say nothing of Sweet Virginia and Loving Cup but when forced to narrow down to five they don't make the cut. Go figure.

It´s my favorite album.

Rocks Off
Tumbling Dice
Happy
Let It Loose
Numerber 5 changes nearly every day, i can´t really say Shake your Hips, Casino Boogie, Sweet Black Angel etc.

Honestly, I could name any five in any order (with the exception of Turd On The Run and I Just Want To See His Face, neither of which I've ever got) and it'd be an acceptable list. But, at the moment:

1) Let It Loose (magisterial in so many ways)
2) Tumbling Dice (dat groove)
3) Stop Breaking Down (very underrated, I think: great riff, and I love Taylor's slide solos)
4) Torn And Frayed (dat melody, although in a different mood I might swap this for Sweet Virginia)
5) Casino Boogie (used to think it was rubbish, now I find the rhythm and the feel of it really addictive)

Exile's one of those albums that grows on you as a whole. It isn't about individual tracks, rather a sort of musical immersion therapy.

Brilliant reply! I started to do this in song order and reached five on the first album with at least as many again on the second. This thread has highlighted for me just what a seminal work Exile was. I really do love every second of it.

TD, Sweet Virginia, Let It Loose, All Down the Line, Rip This Joint.

I guess the Stones are nearly in agreement with me since 4/5 are among the small group of songs that have regularly been played live.
