OK, here is the definitive true that will finally lay this topic to rest. Keith really has a gigantic Afro of kinky hair, like the style that was popular among black men in the 70"s.

His hair was always like this. Once his hair grew in as a child, his mother realised that Keith would be the subject of ridicule about his hair, 60 years down the line becuase it was Afro type. Doris and Bert Richrds always made sure that Keith wore a full wig whenever in public.

Once the Stones started the wig got better, luckily wacky hairstyles, or no style at all were common for Rock Stars so nobody ever really payed attention or realised he always wore a wig, especially when he changed his wig to resemble that he "teased" his hair.....which encouraged young guitar players to do the same to emulate KR'S style but ultimately spun wildly out of control spawning what we noe call "The Hair-Band Era".

Anyway, Jane Rose, KR's manager and PR person recognized that Keith is now older and his wigs should reflect that, showing thinner hair on the scalp. Keith of course added his own toch to the "older guy" wigs by hanging objects like beads and fishhooks off his wig.

The reality is that he still has a thick, full head full of Afro hair, but we will never see it, much like the fact that Elvis Presley actually had blonde hair, but we never saw it.
