Doesn't look like 1972 or 73
My guess would be +- 1977.
Those face expressions are telling so much. Doubt, doubt, doubt and mixed emotions.
It is 1979, promo shoot for the new solo album. From what I recall, it was shot in Los Angeles.
According to a friend of mine who knew Jim Marshall, these hotel shots were promo photos for Taylor's 1979 solo album. He (my friend) picked them from slides at Marshall's apartment above Van Ness Ave around 1980 - 1983.
I do not know if the actual album photos were taken by Marshall.
1979 publicity picture.
Common thinking at the time. Music I can understand, but drugs? What good came from them?

You're probably right. He does look a little bit older in this photo than in the others in the book. Plus, I was looking through my book last night and I couldn't find a date for the photo. They said that typically photos shot during that era weren't accompanied by captions, so it was difficult dating them and, at times, determining a location.

I knew it was 1979 or thereabouts. The loose fitting shirt gives it away. Tight fitting clothes more popular in 60 / early 70s.

I'm not so sure. The pic with Mick T "outside his hotel" is from the Jim Marshall 1972 tour photo book. I agree the pics look slightly out of place, as does his Strat (although he may very well have had a Strat for jamming off stage), but it's kinda weird how the pic ended up in that book.
