Yes, because you are confused.

One question might be if cultural context sometimes contributes more or less behind the actors' back. Or some actors might even be partly aware of the arriving shifts in it. New or renewed forms emerge, where similar efforts before would not have led to the same effect as at the later stage. Did not. What before would have resulted in garage music, becomes punk instead. And, despite some similar aspects, is decisively different.

The Stones last great re-invention was Some Girls, and Respectable has a great punk-thrash swagger, along with the three-guitar attack that helped make that album so exciting.

Punk or not punk, I don't care: Respectable is just great music.

And I love all the little tricks they used to use to keep a 3 m I / IV / V rocker interesting, such as the E not played after the first verse, played twice during chorus, once during the solo etc.

Bill of course is majestic.

Live, 78 was so huge that for years I couldn't even listen to the old farts version they played in the vegas era. Now that I am an old fart myself I love also that version.

Yeah, gotta love songs like Black Limo and Rooster with 13 bars, and playing around with the "established concept" of the blues.

They learned it from guys like John Lee, Jimmy and Muddy, though thumbs up

Never cared for Some Girls. Truly an overrated album. The two by-the-numbers rockers from Black and Blue beat anything on it hands down.

Crazy Mama beats Beast Of Burden, Miss You, Imagination and Before They Make Me Run?

I need some of the stuff you're smoking, obviously - because I'm not with you at all here, even though I think CM is ok smiling smiley

CM beats at least Miss You. But not BOB. Imagination doesn't count, that's no Stonessong but a cover. A draw with Run (overrated plaintive song).

The lyrics of Run are so uncool Dandie. For god's sake, who the hell would make KEITH run! No one. Not even Jagger!

The line is "go take my wife"; the song is a goodie but deserved a second verse; "Lies" is a little ball tearer.

Well now we're respected in society
We don't worry about the things that we used to be
We're talking heroin with the President
Yes there's a problem, sir, but it can't be bent

Ah yes

Well now you're a pillar of society
You don't worry about the things that you used to be
You're a rag trade girl, you're the queen of porn
You're the easiest lay on the White House lawn

Get out of my life, don't come back

She's so respectable
She's so delectable
She's so respectable

Get out of my life
Don't take my wife, don't come back

All right boys

That's just a double first verse and there's nothing after the first chorus. Could have done with one. And all I hear is "go" not "don't take my wife" and apart from that the latter makes no sense.

Re: Track Talk: Respectable

It's both. "Go" the first two times, and "Don't" on number 3, 4, and 5. Then "Go again" on number 6.

Those lyrics from timeisonourside.com aren't accurate. I just listened again. Sounds like "Right now", instead of "well now" as well...

Songs like this one really don't need a bridge or more verses. With the guitar solos and Mick's vocal crescendos it works fine, imo. You can't let rockers like this one last for 5 minutes, either smiling smiley

Great song...but not a punk song, and I agree with His majesty, the Stones attempting to be punks was cringing and they didn't need to even try, they were out punking the punks a decade before punk appeared. Just about every punk guitarist based themselves on Keith but few could play anywhere near as good.

I guess the Punk era jolted the band into action but that is all and Some Girls, only has 2 songs which could be deemed a nod to punk tempo and lyric wise and in reality they were just rock songs and Star @#$%& was probably more punk and that was out in 73?

I love these posts with people trying to deny these were punk songs. I think some posters just love to be looked at as out of the box thinkers, I guess you are right and everyone was just fooled into thinking they were punk. This despite you admitting in your post that these 2 songs could be considered a nod to punk.

And wrong it was great when the Stones did punk. IT fit them perfectly. Actually the whole Some Girls Album fit perfectly.
