Hanging Rock weather

The actual weather forecast for Saturday, put out by the Govt's Bureau of Meterology (the one that the media presenters interpret) says...

Partly cloudy. Winds northeasterly 25 to 40 km/h tending north to northeasterly 35 to 50 km/h before dawn then shifting south to southwesterly 25 to 40 km/h in the afternoon. Overnight temperatures falling to between 13 and 17 with daytime temperatures reaching 28 to 34.

The absolutely key phrase in there is "shifting south to southwesterly 25 to 40 km/h in the afternoon"

That means that although the maximum early afternoon could well be 34C, within a few hours the temperature will drop. (Anyone who has been in Melbourne all week will have experienced a drop like that one day this week).

In the Southern Hemiphere, Southerly winds can mean cold winds. In much the same way that in the other half of the globe, a Northerly wind is a cold wind.

So, although the afternoon will start off very warm, by showtime it may well be fairly cold.

So, make sure you bring layers of clothes that you can put on as the temperature drops. For drop it will!

I went to see the Corner Hotel where Mick did his club gig back in 1988. It looks like a special "joint", hard to see there is space for more than just a few hundred fans at this place. Anyone who saw Mick there in 1988, or have been inside for other gigs?

Not at all.

I'm not worried about Australians - we understand the climate here.

But I am very worried about our welcome guests who have come to see The Rolling Stones.

I'm worried that someone will hear the headline temperature (30-something) and think that will be set for the day, and will result in a glorious balmy warm evening. They'll set off in their thin T-shirt, shorts, and sandals. It'll be fine (probably) when they eventually get to Hanging Rock, but by sundown it will be getting cold, and by the time The Rolling Stones come on (especially if the sky is as clear as expected in their poster) it will be getting cold and will drop to the low teens.

I want people to turn up and be able to enjoy the show. I don't want people to suffer from getting very cold and it spoiling their night out.

Layers.

Missed the Mick Jagger Corner gig BV but have seen many other acts in there over the years from guys like Lee Perry to The Pretty Things ....
Small stage in bar-room with maybe enough space for audience of around 400 ...

From Herald Sun website [www.heraldsun.com.au]

The Rolling Stones have scrapped their show at Hanging Rock tomorrow.

Reporter Nui Te Koha says promoter Michael Gudinski said frontman Mick Jagger has a throat infection and is unable to perform.

Gudinski, speaking on Triple M Hot Breakfast minutes ago, said the Stones will try to reschedule the outdoor show.

They performed at Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday night to rave reviews and Jagger showed no signs of illness
