I actually heard Bette Midler´s Beast of Burden years before the original, and I still think that is a very good version! JJF by Aretha, indeed, Otis with Satisfaction... But although there are many good Stones covers, I have yet to find one that beats the original.

While JJF is a TOUGH track to even consider equalling, Leon's and JOhnny's versions of JJF are INCREDIBLE

There are none...

The only cover I prefer to the original is Korner's Get Off My Cloud with Richards on guitar and cameo vocal.
It's possible the vinyl version differs from the CD.

Not always better but maybe different or as good some of these...anyways, was just writing about the aforementioned Flamin' Groovies on another thread. They did several Stones covers, usually pretty much close to the original arrangement. This one, for me, slightly trumps the Stones:

It's written by Roderick/Christy/Jackson, and the original version is by Larry Williams, as far as I know.
