I think alike. The way he was presented in Stones shows was more like a freak show: "now Taylor, spotlight is yours, use your rare minutes under the sun well". Here Mick Taylor, a natural-born musician (more reflecting the music and interacting with the other players) is more at home.

(Not that Taylor didn't do well with the Stones as well).

But Simon Kirke is a great drummer, and was obviously having fun with both amick and Ronnie. No need to add more famous folks (Stones or otherwise) to this already-great band . More high-profile people join in, it changes everything--would have sucked all the air out of the room, and the original band would suddenly become invisible.

Nah Charlie or Bill would just add that bit too much of 'the stones' and up the expectations and baggage that come along with it.

Taylor and Wood are a great combo, balanced.

Obviously free from any Jagger/Richards restraints they can just get on and play!........ and they do!

They compliment each other wonderfully, they need to keep it up and play together as often as possible.

I don't think anyone will speculate on that anymore. Most of us, I think, strongly suspected that MT could do just fine
playing in a full show.

That far-fetched theory was only put forward by those that were trying to deny that fears for Taylor stealing the limelight were affecting the decision makers.

NEW YORK (AP) — Another Rolling Stones rumor bites the dust.

Hours before Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood took the stage with former band member Mick Taylor at a club in Manhattan on Saturday night, a crowd gathered outside amid speculation that they would be joined by fellow guitarist Keith Richards and, possibly, Mick Jagger.

Inside the Cutting Room was a mix of celebs — musician and actor Steven Van Zandt, Monkees member Micky Dolenz, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, among others.

But the standing-room-only crowd of a few hundred got what was originally promised: A 90-minute set of guitar-grinding Jimmy Reed blues songs from Wood and Taylor.

The duo played a few shows at the club earlier in the week, too, tearing into the likes of “Bright Lights Big City” and “Going to New York.”

No, just that it's silly for Taylor or his fans to expect him to be up there onstage for any great length of time. That he was there at all was something in of itself.

He left them, he's not a band member etc etc. The main concern for the band as it is now, or was last year, was to put on the best show they can after a good few years away from touring. The guests were additional things.

The band as it is now did pretty well without the guests and proved that they could still do their thing.

Lots of guitarists have the potential to steal the limelight from the stones if they were to play with them for more than a song or two.

I'm not arguing that they didn't do "pretty well". However, it's interesting that this article - written from a fairly objective point of view - claims that Taylor's cameo was the only crucial element to last summer's performances.

His spot obviously has more to it due to shared history etc and there was the continuation of them, they weren't just one shot appearances like most of the other guests.

Wyman's guest spots were akin to Taylor only getting to come out strumming acoustic on Satisfaction or something. Odd song choices for his guest spots.

So are there full setlists for both nights available? I've looked back in the thread and I'm only seeing various songs mentioned.
