Great quality clip from 74, reminds me why I liked the Keith and Ronnie interplay/weaving. Shirley no one could not like this!

several thoughts...

Willie Weeks and Andy Newmark were an outstanding bass/drums hookup..

have they ever had an intro of one song used as a segue to another like that...?

So musical..much more focus on playing specific pieces..

Keith and his toothless voodoo look....

Sucks that Wooden Records stopped right when Ronnie's marriage ended. I heard there was a Live from Madison Square Garden Barbarians show ready to be released. Plus a box set with a few unreleased albums from 1987 and 1996.

THe New Barbarians really had something, too oftent hese 'super bands' are nothing more than a diluted version of the component parts, but each member brought something special to the table and importantly did it for fun rather than money. Hoping one day an official release of worthiness is released.

Technically that fine line-up is not the New Barbarians, but yes that Shirley is hot!
Shirley was the manager of the Stones' first fan club, and she later worked for the Faces,
taking notes, writing letters and so on :E

I didn;t know that was who the song was about ! True about the band membership but whether it was Ziggy and Stanley or any others they all had the desire to gig and weren't looking at dollar signs like the likes of Blind Faith etc did.

Keith's riffings sounds pretty similar to LIB's Monkey Man. Great '74 footage.

Great footage and Shirley is an awesome tune. I love Keith meaty Gibson tone against Ronnie's strat tone, they play so well together it's little wonder they added woody.

That was great! And I didn't realize it was about her, either--but great that she should get her own song, after all the work she did for both bands. Shirley Arnold, he name was . .

He is great, no doubt about it. Very funky and innovative. And he can write as well:

Dandelion,

what an album, its meant a lot to me over the years.

I want to keep the Willie Weeks discussion going...maybe a separate thread..

so no knowledge of whether he was invited to audition for the Stones? my guess is they talked with him but he wanted to keep his options open..either that or Mick doesn't like him..wouldn't think that would be the case though..

he's from right near where I live...always been a fan of his playing as a bass player myself..

It might very well be he had other engagements, Duke.

He is certainly one of my all time favourite bass players, and I'm pretty sure Ronnie asked him because of his work with Hathaway.

Weeks played with Ronnie just a year ago: [www.iorr.org]

He deserves to be in this thread, as he was one of the First ("Baby") Barbarians - a band name that means a lot to me winking smiley

Great show, on par with the Stones '75-76 shows, and I like it way better than the New Barbarians of '79.

The rhythm section here is fantastic, very funky. As much as love Charlie and Bill, Willie Weeks and Andy Newmark play with more swing and groove. They're definitely a tight unit.

I love Ronnie's first two albums, by the way.

Was this his only solo show around that time?
