What? No Dirty Work? That's the one that needs some redoing

and different players.

EDIT...but to preserve the integrity of the original album, the title should remain the same, and that red cellophane wrapping should be included as well. I'm all for preserving a sense of history.

OK, sorry for bringing up this subject again, but reading the older threads
I can't figure out a best answer.

I have an sa-cd player now.
But at the same time it has a USB port, so potentially I could use the DAC inside to play HDTracks files.

As far as I know the 2002 dual layer SA-cd are no longer available.

I'm interested in 60s albums most, though an under cover audio upgrade sounds great too.

Hence, so if I go out to buy audio upgrades, do I go for
1) SHM-SACD as currently sold in Japan, or for
2) HDtracks

If 1), then what is the title where it makes the hugest difference.
If 2), then what is the title to go for?

Thanks for any advice

Sticky Fingers and Exile are available for download on rusian's torrent sites in FLAC format and both sound FANTASTIC, by far the best versions available.

Semi-newbie question but why buy a 650 MB CD downsampled from HD files?

Why not wait for a 20Gb+ audio bluray title that will not be downsampled from the HD files?

The "funnel" effect (from several GBs to sth like 650 Mb or a bit more) annoys me.

In other words I see this wave of HQ cds as a way to beat dead horses as imo the future of music will be severely polarized : at the bottom mp3 crap that will be had for free off the Net and at the top I see super-HD audio physical releases (bluray?) that will have a cost.

I don't see anything (like CD) in the middle...

You can find out the difference here for instance. Use JRiver, Foobar2000, Audirvana+ or Puremusic to play the SHM-SACD-files on a PC or Mac.

Here's what I'd recommend:

1.Single Layer SHM-SACD is the best choice.(after Beggars Banquet)

2.Platinum SHM-CD is the second option.(after Sticky Fingers)

3.Wait until DSD download is put in place.

FYI,
DSD Download News from Acoustic Sounds' Super Hi Rez
At this weekend's Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF), Acoustic Sounds owner Chad Kassem provided an update on the company's Super Hi Rez downloads site at Super HiRez

1. Rolling Stones - ABKCO Records has approached Super Hi Rez about offering the Rolling Stones Remastered Series albums on the site.
ABKCO owns the early Stones catalog and issued these albums as Stereo SACDs several years ago from direct Analog Master Tape transfers.
The SACDs are now out of print and run for major prices on the Internet when found.

BTW,
the recent SHM-SACD(not Stones) and Platinum SHM-CD(including Stones) series have extravagant package.
US specified paper jacket with Obi, liner notes and lyric sheet are contained in the 14 centimeters square fancy box.
It is gorgeous.

And the sound quality is awesome for sure. Big surprise of the year.thumbs up

*Pay attention to downloading files from HDtracks. Sometimes they upload fake high rez files.winking smiley

The best digital versions of the post-Let it Bleed Stones catalogue are indeed the SHM-SACD's from 2011. Those DSD masterings were reportedly done "flat" from the original UK tapes by the people at FX Mastering.

The new Platinum SHM-CD's use those 2011 DSD masterings, and they sound virtually as good. All other SHM-CD's do NOT use those 2011 masterings, and won't sound very different from what you buy in the US/Europe.

They are all outstanding, in my opinion.

There are mini LP versions of the 2011 DSD masterings as well, they have the same release dates as the Platinum disks.

1) Get the 2002 sacd for 60's albums. They benefit from an "unlimited" mastering (not the case the CD layer) which sounds absolutely great.
2) Get the 2011 shm-sacd for 1971-1986 albums (or the 2013 cd's).
3) Cry for 1989-2012 recordings as they are all low definition digital recordings.
4) Beware of hdtracks downloads as they are downsampled files from sacd.

A little confused here.

Are there 'flat' transfers of the 1971-1986 catalog on cd's outside Japan???

Not at this time.

So it is fair to assume the SHM-SACD's will play on the functional SACD player I own?

If these things continue to improve...
