Paul is a very talented person of course but he misses the kind of deep blues and rock'n roll vibe in his music as the Stones have. Mick is so charismatic performer but Paul is so ordinary guy somehow. And Paul's talent is more on melodys and harmonies and there he can be a real genious. John was more charismatic I think from the Beatles' members as a person. Paul is just a too nice person!

To add a deep blues and rock'n roll vibe you don't need much more than Jagger and Richards, from what it's left these days . The current back up band is comparable to what ABBA did in in the 7-tees. Back up and double the original. It's cheap too. The looks however: very important.

Use some of the time leading up to 25th November watching the 6x30min "McCartney 3,2,1" interviews.

As a series it's VERY GOOD INDEED. There are plenty of images in there that I certainly had never seen, and the ability for Paul or Rick Rubin to illustrate something by using the actual studio tracks and fading things up and down is simply tremendous.

Rubin may be a (some say "the") top producer at the moment, but he's not really that great as an interviewer. There's a couple of times where he reacts with "Amazing..." at some observation of Pauls that has to be pretty mundane. Plus there are several times where Paul talks about something that really is well known (eg that Jimi played "Sgt. Pepper" to open a show two days after the album's release) - and that made me wonder if he was either woefully unaware of the subject matter, or a dreadful actor feigning amazement.

That said, I unreservedly recommend this set of interviews as a preview to the main course.

(Can anyone explain why Rubin never wears shoes - is is a pretentious affectation or does it have a nice explanation.)
