Just relax and enjoy the music. Sheesh. There guys have had a friendly rivalry for decades. It's only music guys, I don't get why fans feel the need to get so defensive about a band. McCartney and Jagger sure arent losing any sleep over it and I'm sure are having fun joking around about it.

“They are rooted in the blues. When they are writing stuff, it has to do with the blues,”

He says this like it’s a bad thing... And it’s just plain wrong.
Poor Paul. Same lines every night, same stories, same high on the mount.
It might surprise him that for some, the Beatles don’t exist and it’s only ever been the stones that mattered.

You're going to be shocked when you learn who wrote I Wanna be Your Man.

The rivalry still has a heart beat. I have a friend that gets so mad he won't talk to me when I try to say something about The Beatles.

Macca knows that if you're not rooted in the blues you more or less come up with some sorts of silly/pretty melodies that lean very hard on the "Eurocontest" kind of tunes.
Macca knows he's been writing such mediocre songs all his life.
I stumbled upon "Let It Be" the other day on the radio and frankly it put the needle of my cheesy-o-meter into the red.

"I'm not sure I should say it, but they're a blues cover band, that's sort of what the Stones are"

[ew.com]

Dear Paul, with these words you have been disrespectful and you have shown that you don't understand a @#$%& thing about a truly eclectic band that has played - unlike you - every musical genre. And unlike you, they have never bored anyone.

Since John is not there anymore to discuss Paul's view.

Remember John hated jazz stuff.

Paul liked jazz stuff.

But both loved Rock 'N' Roll.

And the Beatles were a mixture of that.

Paul wrote "Oh Darling" and John would have died to be allowed to sing it.

Beatles and Stones rivalery is just a joke.

It's a joke but he can't say that the Stones "are a blues cover band".
It means Paul hasn't listened to their albums...or just Blue and Lonesome!

Every musical genre ? Hmmmm....you need to buy some more records ! There may be a few genres you haven't investigated. Charles Ives and John Coltrane are well worth a listen.
Love the Stones but sometimes they were boring, certainly post-Exile.
I like McCartney as well but let's face it, Paul without John is like Phil without Don.
If you were to play someone all the albums of new material released in the last 15 years by Sir Fab and The Rolling Stones, unfortunately the Stones are just a blues cover band whereas (unfortunately) Mac has released several classical works among many many other things.
I have to say though, that as much as I enjoyed McCartney 3 Imagined, Blue and Lonesome Reimagined was way better - Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter and Willie Dixon pay tribute to the band that was inspired by them.

I think Paul is perflectly aware of the Rolling Stones discography.

Well The Rolling Stones are grounded to the Blues as The Beatles were grounded to Rock 'N' Roll.

I think Mick and Keith had a big laugh reading Paul's interview.

Paul McCartney states that Stones are nothing but a blues cover band
Posted by: flilflam ()
Date: October 16, 2021 17:39

This is an article by David Remnick of The New Yorker. There is also a video of Resnick with CNN.

The comments by Paul seem a little insulting. The Stones have covered quite a few old blues musicians, and their music was influenced by the great blues people. But they sang romantic ballads, dabbled in disco, and wrote some wild and raucous rock and roll. Many dealt with important social issues.

This is 2021. Isn't it a bit silly to go into the debate about which is better, Stones or Beatles ?

You would only consider it insulting if you didn’t believe in your work.
I expect the stones would laugh off such comments.

Maybe Paul only listened to "Blue and Lonesome" and forgot about all the previous albums!
