The song was supposed to be called Hey Dude... the "J" a typo.

It was written as Hey Jules -- Macca wrote it for John's son Julian to comfort him over his parents' impending divorce.

When I was very young I actually thought it was "Hey jew". In all well meaning... My English was on a developing basis though..

First time I heard it a buddy and me were listening to the radio and caught it from the middle of the song. It just went on and on. At the end we laughed and tried to guess who it was. One of us said 'The Beatles' and we laughed. Great song.

Happy 50th birthday to you, Apple Records

By 1970, Rolling Stones manager Allen Klein had been appointed as head honcho at Apple Corps, the umbrella company that ran the label,
and it’s true that he significantly curtailed its creative output.
When Klein departed in 1973, the label came to focus on reissues of Beatles material and the band members’ solo output,
but those first few years were incredibly forward-thinking and fruitful. Let’s look, then, at some of Apple Records’ tastiest albums.

White album teaser

Representatives from the press has been sent this somewhat cryptic message, asking them to save the date September 26, 2018. An invitation will follow. According to one such representative, Roger Friedman, this is an event where details of the upcoming 50th anniversary edition of The Beatles' self titled "white album" will be revealed. Friedman writes that the event will take place in New York.

We have also been told from another source that the track list for the various editions will be revealed on September 25th, so perhaps the event in question is a listening party and an opportunity to interview Giles Martin, who is Apple's go to guy when it comes to remixing sound..

Things are starting to get interesting....

PS - That unlisted track "Can You Take Me Back" used to give me the willies when I was a little kid - it sort of appears then disappears, then segues into Revolution #9...even creepier... eye popping smileywinking smiley

Can You Take Me Back

I have the full version on a boot (and it's on youtube) - assuming it could be part of the upcoming deluxe?

This has the potential to be absolutely incredible. I'm sure it won't be what it could be, since Sgt Pepper's wasn't, but Sgt Pepper's was good enough that I'm sure what they release here will be solid. Not perfect but not a total missed opportunity.

I wonder what John thought about the lyrics? He is quoted as rating the song very highly. But it must have been mixed emotions knowing it was his songwriting partner writing about his (John's) own son.

"Through the years, in all his sniping about Paul, John never hid his admiration for “Hey Jude.” “I always heard it as a song to me,” he told Playboy’s David Sheff in 1980, shortly before his death. “The words ‘go out and get her’ — subconsciously he was saying, ‘Go ahead, leave me.’

Here's the full quote from John Lennon, 1980:

"He said it was written about Julian, my child. He knew I was splitting with Cyn and leaving Julian. He was driving over to say hi to Julian.
He'd been like an uncle to him. You know, Paul was always good with kids. And so he came up with Hey Jude.

But I always heard it as a song to me. If you think about it... Yoko's just come into the picture. He's saying, 'Hey, Jude – hey, John.'
I know I'm sounding like one of those fans who reads things into it, but you can hear it as a song to me. The words 'go out and get her' –
subconsciously he was saying, Go ahead, leave me. On a conscious level, he didn't want me to go ahead. The angel in him was saying, 'Bless you.'
The devil in him didn't like it at all because he didn't want to lose his partner".

John Lennon thought a lot of songs were about John Lennon. Its hard to tell how many of those he was right about.

I heard this news today, oh boy.

John on his great friend PaulMcCartney and 'How Do You Sleep':
"It's not about Paul, it's about me. I'm really attacking myself.
The only thing that really matters is how he and I feel about those things. Him and me are OK."

The Beatles’ struggle to finish “The White Album”: How bad did it get?

“They must have done ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da’ five nights running and it’s not exactly the most melodic piece of music”

Not sure if this has been posted somewhere already, but apparently Keith and Paul had a pretty epic business idea for inflatable dog kennels.

He also talks about the perceived rivalry between the Beatles and the Stones in the ‘60s.

“'If you don’t know this one you’re probably in the wrong venue and you’re probably waiting for the Rolling Stones,'
he says as his band launch into ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’.
Then he points out a seat near the front of the crowd and waves. “Hi Mick! We’ve got Mick in tonight.'
Everyone starts craning to spot the singer as Ringo looks on grinning,
watching the looks on his fans’ faces until he puts them out of their misery.
Mick Jagger isn’t present tonight – it’s just a mischievous prank on Ringo’s part."

Glad I have a copy of the original version. And I remember back in the very late '70's/early '80s' they played it on one of the old cable channels constantly.

Now it's like re-writing history...maybe they can call it Let it Be Happy.
Will be great to see some additional footage!

Exclusive Report: White Album 50th Anniversary Reissue Details!

A report on what the upcoming 50th anniversary White Album reissue …

Two media listening parties for the 50th anniversary reissue of The Beatles’ White Album are set for Sept. 26 in New York City. And sources tell Beatlefan that the various configurations of the White Album reissues look like this:

A 4-LP set (2 discs of the new stereo remix + 2 discs of Esher demos)
A 3-CD set (same material as above). Apparently two of the CDs are the new remix and the third CD is the Esher demos.
And a Super Deluxe CD Box (3 CDs as above + 3 CDs of outtakes). Plus the box will include a Blu-ray disc that will be audio only. There will be no video.

The outtakes include “Hey Jude,” “Revolution,” “Inner Light,” “Across the Universe,” “Lady Madonna,” and nonalbum tracks/jams/improvisations. Of the latter, Beatlefan has been told that at least a couple are previously unknown. There also are some rehearsals.

Included will be the 12-minute version of “Helter Skelter” that previously was boiled down to about 5 minutes for the “Anthology,” but the legendary 27-minute version of “Helter Skelter” will NOT be included.

We’re told that the new remix of the album by Giles Martin has “incredible clarity and more bass and drums present.”

An official announcement of the releases is expected soon. The release date is expected to be Nov. 9.

UGHHHHHHHH I so wanted the 27 minute version of Helter Skelter.

But I'm easy. I don't know any bootleg stuff so anything new, especially from that period, I'm sure is incredibly fascinating.
