Magical Mystery Tour Revisited

Thought it looked familiar, first broadcast in 2012.

The film itself was certainly broadcast around then, freshly remastered and I watched it. I don't remember seeing all the other bits and pieces though.

It was indeed reissued in 2012. I went to a screening of the film on the South Bank in London where, amongst the invited guests, were two women who were on the bus itself. They said they bunked off work to be in the film and the whole experience was as crazy and surreal as it appears on the finished article. It was a tour which to them was certainly magical and also a mystery - they will probably feature in this documentary.

Thanks for the links.
Ive recorded, but not yet watched 'Part 1'.
There doesn't seem to be a Part 2 scheduled....any information?

As I posted earlier, this was first shown in 2012, part 2 was the movie itself.

Loved watching this, til it jammed up outside the court. So evocative of the 60's in England. I often think back and wonder how we found this stuff out without the internet, but we always knew their 'feuding' was all a put up job by the press. Nothing much changes does it?

<<< ...rare footage and on but then it jams up at the 38min mark ...don't play no more !!! .... >>>

Whoops! About 2/3 of the way through the documentary I paused it to go make a bread and peanut butter snack. On the way to the kitchen I decided to make my quick posting, and when I resumed it it jammed on me too.

I also noticed on the YouTube timeline on my Android tablet all of the little "notches" showing commercial breaks. But when watching it on my TV using a Chromecast all of the commercials are magically filtered out. If you are watching on your computer, Firefox with Adblock Plus also does the trick.

some of the beatles stones feuding was real.

lennon and mccartney often had a pop at the stones.

as much as i like the beatles, they didnt rock like the stones, didnt do the blues like the stones, didnt have the energy and agression like the stones and their perceived superiority in the psychodelic era was a myth. some beatles songs are merely a step up from the wombles or the tweenies(yellow submarine) the more obvious one.

i listen to a lot of late 60,s psychodelic stuff these days and lots of it was much better than the beatles by bands like shocking blue, strawberry alarm clock, the stones, status quo and the doors.

the beatles were imo very overrated, the image soared them to heights many better bands couldnt reach cos they wernt around at that time.

A nice one, thanks! Rather 'neutral' to both (though the Stones, of course, turned to be way cooler, but that's the reality haha), and I liked the idea of emphasizing the impact of their managers. Some footage I never seen before. Although the last 15 minutes in Polish were a bit challenging...grinning smiley

Yes, some rarely seen footage (eg interviews with ALO), but littered with errors and as for timeline consistency - useless.

I'm glad it freezes at 38mins. Saves me the bother of watching any more.

For Beatles Fans. Freda Kelly appears early on. There's an entire film made about her called "Good Ole Freda!". Very good indeed.

thumbs up

I watched that documentary twice. It's very good to see part of their history being told from her point of view, which is very interesting, given the fact that she was very close to them.

I've remembered the bit that annoyed me the most with its inaccuracy.

The film goes on about how, once The Beatles broke into the USA market, Brian Epstein used his marketing genius to make vast amounts of money for 'The Boys'.

He may indeed have made 'vast' amounts of money, but it's VERY well recorded that he was massively (galatically) ripped off by agreeing to dreadful dreadful licensing fees - way below typical market rates about which he knew bugger all -resulting in The Beatles getting a tiny fraction of the money that flowed in, and the licencees getting unthinkable millions of dollars.

With SGT PEPPERS getting a remix (well done, too) with a disc of the tracks used in their earlier stages before being overdubbed and other takes, perhaps Mick could use that as a cue to remix EOMS, do a bonus disc of the rest of the France sessions leftovers, the full length version of Happy (ie no fade), and, oh, maybe a mix of Rocks Off sans horns.

There were some definite tensions though. In January 1967 Courtfield Road footage Keith comments on them getting a hard time from Beatles about their new music. Then there's Lennons snidey comments on the stones.

Unusually interesting/good interview with McCartney while he was in Melbourne this week.
