How do you know I'm left wing? Maybe I'm a moderate centrist. Maybe I'm a social and fiscal conservative. Maybe I'm even a Republican but not an extreme right wing Republican and I'm embarrassed about how some have hijacked the party? Is this a "us vs. them" mentality that you have? Anyone that disagrees with you or anyone that calls you out and challenges your way of thinking is a socialist left winger? P.S. I type these words not in a fit of rage or anger so please, don't feel threatened by me.

Deltics is right ofcourse.

It seems to be feeding time at the troll zoo.

And the thread started with a simple mention of a book - albeit one with a contentious title........-
........ which has resulted in contentiousness and a troll feeding frenzy on the ether-net.

How about a thread entitled 'Compare and contrast the Beatles and the stones in a respectful and dignified manner'

Another thread called 'the worldview of michaelsavage - its breadth of vision, its merits and its limitations.

And another thread for another guy (i'll have to go back and find his 'name') JumpingJackofLantern (he needs our pity - we'd all have problems if our parents had christened us that) and his detractors.

Infact what is needed is a Tell Me for people wishing to discuss/argue with genuine integrity and another kind of Tell Me ........ a Troll Tell Me.

Could not agree more.

I motion to put this Beatles vs Stones war behind us, once and for all. The Stones soared past the Beatles at Glastonbury, and, that, is that!

For some people, unfortunately, 1+1 = 3. No matter how easy you offer it up, they can't seem to understand. Which is totally fine.
I understand. I just don't understand how it is that you come to your understanding. It's one thing to say Stones are #1, Beatles are crap. Fine, your opinion. Music is subjective. But when the foundation and reasons for your argument that Beatles are crap is crap in and of itself then I fail to understand. "Beatles are soft pop/boy band. They are safe. Mom liked them". Is this some sort of stubborn Republican Obama is a Muslim way of thinking?

I like how you slipped a little politico in their gumboot...very deft! unfortunately this can only lead to a downward spiral of CAPITAL LETTERS, expletives iphone ! and hurt feelings whereby the thread is finally closed and becomes just another digital carcass on the information superhighway.
I'm sorry for typing political words. I'll stop.

John Lennon quote re: The Stones copying singles
Posted by: Marhsall ()
Date: October 3, 2013 01:02

In an interview w/ Rolling Stone in 1970 Lennon says;

"I would like to just list what we did and what the Stones did two months
after on every @#$%&' album. Every @#$%&' thing we did, Mick does exactly The same. They are not in the same class, musicwise or powerwise- never were."

I can see Lennons point particularly in the '67 psychedelic period...Everybody was copying the Beatles after Peppers, BUT The Stones Copying EVERY single they did!?!?

I say we take a look at this closer by first posting all Beatles singles with dates, then the corresponding single from The Stones.

I've always personally felt that Lennon was jealous of the Stones cause he KNEW they were far superior as a band than the Beatles ever were.

Anyway, I thought this would lead to a different kind of discussion in regards to Beatles Vs. Stones by comparing the singles.

Just looking at The Beatles singles I don't even see a song that resembles ANY of The Stones material released as singles thru/ the same time period.

Absolutly, I am not a big fan of Lennon the man, from his violent steak, holier that thou attitude, pompus and to paraphrase Julian 'sad that he preached love to the world but had none for his son', probably the biggest example of hipocracy in my generation.

The only nasty staement I love is during an interview with another loser H. Rivera as they walk along a beach, Rivera dressed in white mimmiking Lennon (kissing butt) askes the question "what was the significance of the walrus". Well Lennon just goes off on him and fans ranting 'when are you folks going to get off this kick, there is no signifigance to our lyrics, we are out of ideas!

The Beatels were great, but Lennon's quote is pointless. The Stones copied the Beatels at times, and TSMR is one of the weakest Stones albums. But from 1968 (Bcool smiley on the Stones were better than the Beatels. Even Noel Gallagher said that the Stones remained on a great level longer than the Beatels. Lennon did nothing memorable after the Beatels. Imagine is so overrated. It is Brave New World with pseudo-poetic lyrics.

Wrong. John Lennon's first solo album, Plastic Ono Band, is probably the most important album of the 70s. No one had ever heard such gut wrenching honesty. And the production is very spare, very punk. The entire album is a powerful, haunting work.

Don't forget that Lennon's interview was done before the Stones actually peaked in 1972. They were on the rise and Lennon almost seems afraid of being forgotten. He was way over the top on everything in the interview. He belittled Brian Jones. For being one of a handful of the most famous people on earth, Lennon revealed himself to also be one of the most insecure.

Well, the 65-67 period has some pretty obvious examples of The Stones copying the Beatles style. Every pop group did. Even The Who did it. So what? The bands were looking for their own identity in a culture were writing your own songs became a matter of survival. Both The Stones and The Who came into their own, but obviously later on than The Beatles.

one of the funniest things i've ever seen in my entire life was that crazy ass wife on the mike douglas show calling random people and telling them"i love you"

i'm not kidding, this is on national television and this bitch is dialing people up-"i love you",and people are like....whaaat?? oh,ok ..thanks..by..

lennon was a nutjob.he just sat there and went along with it."we're spreading love"-

and the kicker-howard stern playing it and coming up with one of the best lines ever-"why didnt they call julian?"

In that RS interview, Lennon only mentions two things: Pepper/TSMR and All You Need is Love/We Love You. He was a pretty angry man at that time.

The Beatles copied as well. If it weren't for Pet Sounds, there would have been no Sgt. Pepper.

It's true that The Stones did some copying of The Beatles. One album there's a sitar on one of the songs (Norwegian Wood on Rubber soul), and then the next Stones album has a sitar (Paint It Black on Aftermath US). It was mainly Brian wanting to keep pace with the experimental elements in pop music at that time--and to distinguish himself in the Stones, as he was not a songwriter.

Lennon was resentful at the time because he had to adjust for the first time as a solo artist when for years he had lived his fame under the umbrella of his band of brothers that was suddenly no more--one reason why he clung to Yoko so tightly and so continuously during that time.

And Sun King from Abbey Road is quite similar in feel to Fleetwood Mac's Albtross (said George, I think).
