OT - Metallica's rotating set lists

This morning on the Howard Stern show Metallica was in studio and the group said they rotates set lists so they don't play the same one twice in a row. They said they have 60 songs they move in and out. They said it keeps it fresh and they don't get tired of certain songs. A band that wants to keep it fresh and interesting and doesn't play their warhorses into the ground. How novel.

It's too bad The Stones are on auto-pilot mode for much of their concerts.

Maybe The Stones should record an album with Lou Reed.

In their kick-ass heyday (86-96) they'd play the same 12 then 20 then 25 songs every night but nobody would complain... smileys with beer cos they were GREAT!

Good for them. That's the style most bands should choose.

This is a never ending debate about the Stones. I'd love to see some more rotation in their sets (and I would love to see Mick T on all of them) but there would be many more trainwrecks if they did. Even back in '72 the Stones had to play the same songs over and over again before they got really tight.

They're excellent Live, have seen them 4 or 5 times since 1992 and they always deliver; best show I saw was the 2006 themed show for their classic 'Puppets' album

On record they haven't made a great album since 1991, i.m.o, were never really able to follow up the landmark 'Black' album. Subsequent albums have been good, in some parts very good, but fail to compete or surpass the 80s classics they made.

It's a symptom of a lot of the Thrash bands, after initial success and excellent albums in the 80s and early nineties, precious few have managed to keep up the pace and grow their sound well. Maybe Megadeth are on that did, they made a sterling return really in the late 2000s with 2 or 3 excellent albums.

Springsteen and the ESB just finished their 2012-2013 world tour.
in 136 shows, they played 242 different songs. only one song (perhaps not a warhorse, but a new one) was done every night.
the shortest show had 22 songs, the longest 34.
