Just bought the cd today the songs are interesting, playing is great but I think the engineering & production are ordinary, it sounds a bit sparse and muddy plus Keith's vocals are a bit too close up in the mix.

I'd guess that all your descriptions of the production were the intent.

Dig the Lenny quote by way of KR...

What was Lenny's quote?

pool's in but the patio ain't dry

LOCKED AWAY is my favorite Keith solo song ever. That said, this album is very powerful. The songs have arrangements that are so deep seated in blues, Memphis soul, funk, and country. I just listened to it for the third time and Im a little tired, but Im amazed by the melodies. To me, this sounds just so pure and organic. When was the last time he sounded this inspired? The bar has been set pretty high for the next Stones album imho.

That's a real nice description Bashlets
Locked away is also my favourite Keith solo song ever thumbs up

Got mine from BEST BUY today. Im literally in awe. The ballad Suspicious is wonderful. SOMETHING FOR NOTHING may be my favorite with the Harlem choir, and it rocks. Just A Gift, Irene, and Lovers Plea are all killer. ILLUSION I think I need a few more listens to, and BLUES IN THE MORNING is great musically but a little generic but Keith is ripping it up so it fits in great. So I burned a copy for my car stereo and went on a cruise. Mick, I hope you are listening because to me this album makes even a bigger statement than Talk is Cheap did. Can you f_cking imagine if Jagger sung these quality songs with the heartfelt sentiment that Keith has. It would be insane.
If the Stones record, they have a tough act to follow. Serious folks.

There's no way Jagger should be involved in any future Stones recordings; it is now clearer than ever before: FREE KEITH!!! The last time Keith had this amount of control, he produced LET IT BLEED, which is apparently almost as good as CROSSEYED HEART. The sky's the limit once Keith is freed from the shackles of Mick-dom!

You raise a very important point there Bashlets, don't be put off by longbeach fooling around
These songs could of gone towards a fantastic Stones album if Mick had been interested in actually listening to what Keith has to offer
Some of these tracks would have been great with Mick on them

Longbeach, joke as you may, there is some truth in your sarcasm, i am actually starting to believe there is something in what you say
Free Keith indeed winking smiley
Alas its a little too late in the day for Keith now, but this album surely shows what might of been, had world war 3 not ended..
A very promising solo career of roots music
Keith could of had the authenticity and creative acclaim in the 90's of a Van Morrison or Tom Waits.

Your signature, Winos. "Pool's in but the patio ain't dry" is based on a Lenny Bruce line.

Oh I took it from Little T&A and didn't realise it was taken from Lenny B. I thought you were talking about Lenny Kravitz!
I do like the new Keith album I'm just not sure about how it sounds.....

Extremely dated production... Makes it almost unlistenable. Do yourself a favour and get the new Libertines album instead.

Luckily, it is thumbs up A modern production would have ruined these songs.

...No it wouldn't have. Should have had someone like Stephen Street on the job. The production on this album is extremely amateur.

First 30 seconds of Blues in the Morning are the reason why you have to love Keith.

2015 and he records a rock'n roll like that. God bless him, he's following his way, and he don't care about being modern or experiment new things. That's the way the Stones must follow, if they record something new.

Oh man, how I love this kind of "amateur" way of making music ! It sounds so pure, very natural. As it should be.
Wondering when was the last time The Stones had such a good production...

A big thumbs up

The new Libertines album, while quite enjoyable, sounds very clean and a bit too modernish. It makes me wish they had hired again Mick Jones as producer like on their first two albums.

On the other hand, Keith's album sounds very fresh to me because you just listen to him and his band playing together with no additional production. The fact that Keith has written many great songs helps a lot too of course... smiling smiley

Waiting for my CD to arrive but VERY thankful that Amazon (where I purchased) designated the album as part of their "AutoRip" collection. I woke up this morning, pulled up the Amazon player and started playing the album! Woo Hoo! Good Morning Keith! Not sure what my wife thought about it but is's been a great start to my day to be able to listen at home while getting ready for work, in the car while driving to work and now, at work! Can't wait to get home this evening and watch "Under the Influence"! Thanks Keith! It's a happy Friday in DJA's world!

Peace,
Mr DJA
