bart-man...how's about just get a little windex® and wipe you're computer screen?

All the website you visit will seem fresh and new!

I asked a similar question a few days ago, regarding better readability on mobile devices. And just like in this thread, many responses are along the lines of 'don't change it'. But as I said there, adding functionality won't change anything the website looks now.

But I guess on a website where most visitors are stuck in the 20th century, it's hard to make the case for any change smoking smiley

Here's another stat BV, out of 4 million visits, one request (don't beleive it was a complaint) for doing things "better". There you go, seems that most of us like the site as is.
It was a suggestion. I'm not into websites at all. I only see the design. And I thought a new design (more modern not better)would be cool. I think iorr is the best Rolling Stones site on the internet.

The purpose of IORR is information and communication. I do not care about modern design and fashion, but if I get time I will probably add better support for mobile units i.e. smaller screens. Background colors are not relevant, and if you do not find anything just go in google and write "iorr glastonbury" or "iorr witchita" and voila there it is.

During 2013 so far there has been 4 million visits on IORR from 1.5 million people. Out of these 0.8 million has been mobile including 0.3 million iPad. IORR works fine on iPad but 0.5 out of 4 million visits i.e. 12% if the total IORR visitors are on small screens. The rest use the recommended screen which is a proper desktop PC.

IORR is provided free of charge and it is 100% administrated and configured in my spare time. I work professionally with analyzing web sites including redesign analysis. A new design is often a step-back user-wise. Before I use my time on anything related to functions and layout on IORR, it will be due to a documented need, not because of demand. The web analytics from 4 million visits are talking to me, and they tell me what to do.

Does that mean you generally buy the album for the cover and disregard the music too?

I'm sure a smartphone adaptation will come in time. I don't think there is any hurry though. Remember, this is a Rolling Stones forum...

The site is great as it is now, divided in two main sections and very easy to read.

You mean the Jaggerists vs. the Keith Apologists, or are we wading into Taylor vs. Woods territory?

I think "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" .......... that's what.

It's fine. It's always been fine (the past), it's fine right now (the present), and it always will be fine (the future). Leave it alone !

You know what isnt good? Most websites and all thier pop up ads and too many flashythings and too much sudden BLARING SOUNDS and too many clashing colors and so much clutter that some websites are unreadable, not to mention all those new palced ads that take up 1/4 of the bttom or top of the screen.... and then they proceeed to add and change so much crap all the time that it makes their web pages unreadable.

I enjoy the plain black and white, easy to see/read/use IORR. It is a perfect use of the web to deliver information. One can easily link to other websites, easily post picture here and easily embed videos here. I cant think of anything else that is needed.

This is one of the few websites that actually does what it is intended to do without trying to sell you something. Please don't mess with it.

Definitely not!!

A newer/updated version was provided as an option a few years ago and the uproar of protest was so great that it was scrapped as quickly as it had appeared.

This version is perfectly readable on mobile phones and tablet devices, so I don't know what all that fuss is about.

Like we need this on smartphones and tablets? Will that improve the music? I would assume a lot of the people on here are older. We don't need immediate communication or be alerted that someone has responded to one of our posts. I have no use for a Smartphone because it's too small for me to read. And I hate them because they've ruined looking at pretty girls. Now they're all hunched over, staring at that stupid screen.

For god's sake, BV, don't change something that is already perfect.

Email notification has been a part of iorr for many years.

Again, making a website better readable on as many screen sizes as possible will not change anything on your current reading experience.

I wonder if it costs more server expenses if mobile-centric pages are also put up on the server

The only thing that is needed is to make some adjustments to the css-style document. This document tells a browser how to display all the elements in each page. The source code of each page is not affected, neither will there be a need for additional 'mobile-centric' pages.

Browsers these days are smart enough to figure out on what device/PC they are running, and can then use the appropriate sections in the style document to figure out how to display a website. These css files are very small and should have no impact to the server load whatsoever.
