Keiths song 'Claudine' any boots of this?
Posted by: RankOutsider ()

A song about Claudine Longet and her shoting of her lover (skier) 'Spider' something. It was dropped from Emotional Rescue because it was deemed too controversial. (Imagine that, from a Stones songsmiling smiley

Are there any boots of this song? Has anyone heard it?

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

Great song. Great performance from all. I first got it on one called
Accidents Will Happen (vinyl). It's out there.
Pity it was unreleased, but I can see why.
Perhaps they knew it would never see the light of day.
The publicity about it sure worked, as I remember all the music trades and radio
stations having their knickers in a twist about it...and it wasn't even on
the record or even released.

There's four versions of Claudine (a long acoustic one, and three different elctric versions), and they are available on about a million boots. Btw, it's a Jagger song, not Richards.

In Bill Wyman's book Rolling With The Stones he says it's a Keith song. That's where I heard about it. I don't really care about that I just want to hear it. Is the version that got dumped from Emotional Rescue, (it made it up to the final cut), the acoustic or electric version? Whichever, that's the one I'd like to hear.

Yeah many of us thought that Bill Wyman's book would prove to be the ultimate authority on many backdoor legends. But it turned out that in many instances he knows less than we do. I believe it is a Jaggertune too. You can hear it in the lyrics for one. Way too catchy and storylike to be Keith's. On an electric version you can plainly hear Jagger directing the band. He also asks Keith "to put that weapon down "LOL

Rank....Both short versions can be found on

Static In The Attic - Midnight Beat MB CD084.

The longer version is on a US boot, the title of which I cant recall at the moment or try

Honky Tonk Heaven - STE 039
Megatrax Vol1 - CD25130

its the faster, acoustic, rockabilly-style version.
It wasnt dropped simply because it was 'too controversial', it was dropped because they faced a lawsuit had they released it. Slight difference.

Never understood why they couldn't just alter some lyrics, call it "Pauline" and put it out. Easily one of their most inspired latter-era songs.

There's an amusing interview on an old LP by Dutch journalist Annette van Trigt. She talks to the Stones in 1980, and they are really drunk and are really taking the piss at her. She's getting anoyed a bit, and the Stones start to act quite snobby. She asks Bill Wyman why Claudine isn't on the album, and he answers about 10 times that she should ask Mick, as he wrote it. Finally she asks Mick, and he answers about 10 times that he never wrote a song called Claudine, and if he wrote it, it wouldn't be on the album due to a lawsuit hanging over his head.

You can find Claudine in perfect quality on the 2CD "ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN" VPG-370. This version beats all others IMO.
