OT: For the guitar players
Date: September 5, 2013 08:37

Looking at a Boss TR-2 tremolo pedal, specifically to get the "How Soon Is Now" tone, and the "Gimme Shelter" tone.

1.) Is this even possible with this pedal?
2.) If not, what is? (Hopefully something resonably priced. I'm a poor college student.)

Even with this, you can get great sound. And it's amazingly cheap:

Be careful with these Chinese brands -they're copies of well known pedals, but then with the cheapest components. I had a few for testing and they all broke down one way or the other in just a few days. And, they are NOT true by-pass. Normally not really a big deal (like with Boss for example), but with these Chinse brands they really suck tone. I had a Jimi Leslie pedal that kept pulsating, whether it was on or off for example.

I bought a few, just for fun and out of curiousity: An "analog" delay, the tremolo as well as a chorus pedal.

All works fine after a year or so. I guess you can be very unlucky, though.

A friend of mine bought that JOYO Delay, also just for fun, to see what you can get for such a few bucks and said he was nicely surprised, that it was a great value for the money. I haven't tried any, so I can't say. As for tremolo, I am happy with the one I have in my VOX AC15.

Can you solder?

You can get a very nice tremolo kit for under $100. For instance: [buildyourownclone.com] or [www.mammothelectronics.com]

The Joyo Tremolo is one lush sounding pedal. absolutely fab at a small cost.
I have five of these Joyo pedals (respective Harley Benton branded ones)
none of them has broken down or could be described as "tone sucking".
I gig with them and they're reliable. how the heck do you kill 'em in a few days?

anyway, best bang for the buck, imo.

read on Thomann (german music shop) ,that one "fixed" the suckin the tone issue:

google translated:
For all the problems with the volume difference of effect / effect have. There is a simple solution for this:
Screwed the thomann part completely apart (note, the warranty might suffer), the board pulls out. On the component side of the plate you will find two small potentiometers soldered. The right one controls the volume balance "effect on / off effect" and the left of the thomann so how soft or hard the "wave" increases "luminous intensity" of the optocoupler.

I put the volume ratio of about 9 clock and now I have no longer any difference between the effect on / off effect.

Thomann Tremolo

all in all, for 29 euros, you cant do anything wrong...

Yep, I knew the Joyo Tremolo has two trim pots onboard.
I didn't need to have a go at them, because the pedal sounded perfect right out of the box.
