I want to try that one, the Wolf Bass er I mean Blass...

only Australian wines I'm familiar with are Jip Jip Rocks

and the ones from Sparky Marquis..

gotta revisit them soon..

Haven't tasted Jip Jip Rocks, but it's not for sale here, either
BTW....make sure it's the Cabernet sauvignon version of Wolf Blass Yellow Label if going for that label. THey have others as well, but the cabernet sauvignon is impossible to not like

Oooo, the Wolf Blass Yellow Label is nice, but thats not really inexpensive wine anymore is it? winking smiley (At least here in Norway.) But supernice!
Im an Italian red fan, valpolicella/nebbiolo/brunello/ripasso, but this summer I got introduced to Sauvignon Blanc at the Hyde Park post party. Ok, blame it on the rush of being at the right place at the right time, but the elderberry taste is quite funky/sparkl-y. Try it, but be prepared for some fruity stuff (your woman will probably enjoy it though)

If anybody is in Spain at this moment, please go to Lidl and grab a bottle of red wine named Carles around £3.99.

Apparently this wine is selling for £80 - 90 a bottle in London restaurants.

Tried a bottle yesterday and its very nice.thumbs up

It is a supermarket chain, sorry forgot to add that.

I have been informed that it is not available in the UK, so might just be exclusive to Espana.

Hey finally a topic dear to my heart other than Rolling Stone related. You might try a blend from California called Apothic which isn't too dear and to my unsophisticated taste seems pretty darn good old buddy. Costs around $15.00 in Manitoba and to my tase anyway catches some of the flavour of a much costlier California red without the high price tag and hope you enjoy it should you bother to try it sometime? Cheers!

Re Mateus Rose, that was the first wine a lot of my music friends and I used to drink. Feeling quite grown-up!

I remember drinking that and then using the bottle as a candleholder, which was nearly as an important part of the ritual as the drinking part!

However these days I can only drink white wine (red and rose interact with my meds), and I only like the dry kind, especially pinot grigio. Of the cheap kind, the best I've found (or at least the one I've personally enjoyed most) has been Barefoot. Several good New Zealand and Chilean ones too, but more expensive.

try a Spanish white, if you spot one that looks interesting..consistent high quality and great value..blended and delicious, easy drinking, dry and not simple..just a suggestion!

...I second that, Duke!
And I might suggest (the well known) Albariño, and (the lesser known) Ribeiro - both are from the north-western part Galicia (The Spanish 'top' to Portugal...), if I'm not mistaking.

I still think the French produce some of the finest wines around, with burgundy being one of my favourites, but then we are talking stones tickets prices>grinning smiley<

In Bordeaux and Bourgogne they've gone a bit maniac but if you target lesser known regions like Touraine you can get good stuff at decent prices.

It does take a lot of running around to find these wines at a decent price, but well worth it, when it happens.

I'm actually going to write down some of these suggestions and try them. This is a great O/T thread.

Always enjoy Barefoot & their champagne but find them pricey unless on holiday sale. winking smiley

I will have to show the wife this one.smileys with beer>grinning smiley<

Tried tesco's finest Albarino the other night and probably the nicest Albarino for this price, i have tasted.

I also tried sainsburys italian Greco Di Tufo the other night and its one of the nicest white wines i have tasted this year, obtained three bottles of the Greco on sunday as it was on offer around £7 but just looking its gone back up to £10.49. If you get the chance, please try this.

Be nice to read if anybody did try the red wine from Lidl, unfortuately i think available in Espana.

Chilling out with a nice cool white burgundy in anticipation of the England match.

I prefer my red wine slightly chilled as well, especially a Pinot Noir, usually straight from the wine fridge which is around 57 degrees F. A good bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon I prefer more room temperature, I like to open the bottle and let it breathe for maybe 20, 30 minutes first.

There's some really good South American wines out there, I love Cameneres from Chile as well as Malbecs from Argentina.

Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind...

Here are 3 that I enjoyed.

Wild Horse cabernet sauvignon, their merlot is good too.
Rutherford Hill merlot
Fat Bastard merlot
